3. Lesson
너는 한국음식을 좋아하니? Do You
Like Korean Food?
• In this lesson, students will learn Korean food items. After learning Korean foods, students
can name them correctly in Korean. Second, students can express orally their likes and
dislikes of Korean foods. Third, students will learn how to use utensils (i.e.,
젓가락(chopsticks) and숟가락( spoons) and compare them to their utensils (i.e., fork and
knife). After the class, students will be asked questions regarding their prior knowledge
and understanding of key concepts, vocabulary, and phrases.

9. 김치 Kimchi
• Kimchi is one of the most famous Korean
foods. It is fermented and made of
cabbage, radish, cucumber, and so forth.
• These vegetables are mixed with lots of
seasoning such as salt, pepper, garlic,
ginger, and 젓갈 (seafood fermented in
lots of salts). In every Korean meal, there
is always Kimchi since it is an essential
side dish to most Koreans.

Koreans have a regular meal with rice, soup, and side dishes three times a day. However, this tradition
gradually changes due to industrialization. Hence, many Koreans have a regular meal during dinner time.

Features
• In Korean meal, there are usually rice, soup, and three side
dishes.
• When Koreans eat rice, soup and stew, they use a spoon, but
they use chopsticks for side dishes such as dry and solid
food.
• Koreans do not use a spoon and chopsticks at a time.
• When eating done, Koreans put their utensils back to the
place where they were placed before eating.
• Koreans enjoy sharing their food as one of sign to show their
close relationship.
• Asking more food to the host isn’t regarded as rude but
regarded as appreciating the food.

Thank After a meal, say thank you to the host “ 잘 먹었습니다.“

chopsticks from my grandmother when I
was in 5years old in Korea.
• Hold the chopsticks firmly like the way
you hold a pen.
• As shown in the video, you should put
one stick between your thumb and index
and the middle finger. Then, bring another
stick making V shape and use them when
to pick food.
