This document discusses emerging technologies and their opportunities and challenges from an ethical perspective. It provides design principles for companies to consider, such as making sure technologies respect people as ends and not just means, requiring accountability, and considering unintended consequences. It also discusses the importance of diversity, accessibility, and having the right company culture to ensure technologies are developed and applied responsibly and for the benefit of humanity. Continuous learning, prototyping, and putting users first are emphasized as important for responsible development of technologies.

Stock shelves more efficiently
Leroy Merlin now uses algorithms designed by Vekia to
take in past sales data and other info that could affect
sales, such as weather forecast, in order to stock
shelves more efficiently.
15. Having warehouses workers
filling orders faster
Amazon aimed to streamline “time consuming” tasks
through wristbands, like responding to orders and
packaging them for speedy delivery. With guidance from
a wristband, workers could fill orders faster.

32. Face Recognition
Finnair and Finavia, together with Futurice, tested the use of
face recognition technology for the check-in process of Finnair
flights at Helsinki Airport.
When checking in to their flights, customers used a designated
check-in desk, where the face recognition technology was
installed.
The system used in the test was built using widely available
hardware and software as well as cloud-based services, and with
a strong view to the customer experience.
