2. What makes a great logo great?
And how can you craft one that
captures the essence of your brand?
3. In the next few slides, we're
going to answer some of
these important questions.
4. Great logos don't just happen.
Behind every great logo, there's a
creative theory and its adept
application (made possible by the
skills and originality of a designer).
But first you need to
understand this:
5. Theories are irksome, but
how about we give you
something less boring
and more digestible?
How about we outline the five
universal traits that go into
every successful logo project?
HERE
WE GO!
6. Set Your Design Direction.
You can't proceed with a design
without laying the groundwork. And
you can't lay the groundwork without
asking yourself the right set of
questions:
Why does this brand exist? What solution
does it provide and how it providesit?
What makes it different from others?
What are its core values that won't
change over time?
Answering these important questions
will help you set your design in the
right direction.
7. The Sketchpad
Makes a Big Difference
It's not only to give your eyes a
break from the glare of brightly lit
pixels; but more importantly, to
make the process a lot quicker and
less complicated.
There'll always be time to digitize your work
for precision, sharpness, and alignment. Your
best ideas will always come from the sketches
you effortlessly scribble on your sketchpad.
8. Work in Black and White
Don't get immersed in the haze of
colors before you come up with a
mark first. Colors are easier to play
with and they can wait until the
groundwork is complete.
If an idea you're trying to get across screams
"I'm poor", adding colors is hardly going to
rescue it from going down. So keep your focus
on the basics — the lines, the shapes, and the
idea itself.
In the end, people
remember the form and
not the palette so much.
9. Simplify. Simplify.
The simpler the design, the more
recognizable the logo.
It's easy to get enticed by an overly detailed
design, but what purpose does that serve if
people find it impossible to recall?
What's more, complex designs aren't usually
scalable. You want a logo that gives off a
perfect appeal when used on a large billboard
or is shrunk down to the size of a favicon.
10. Don't be Too Literal
Should your logo be able to tell the
onlookers what you do in business?
No!
Symbols aren't meant to show what you do,
they show who you are. In fact, the more
abstract and less literal the logo, the more
enduring it becomes. People associate
meaning to the mark after they experience
what you do and how you do it.
Do these marks give you any wild
clue what company they represent?
