2. Zeus – God of the Sky
Zeus is the god of the sky in
ancient Greek mythology. As
the chief Greek deity, Zeus is
considered the ruler, protector,
and father of all gods and
humans. Zeus is often depicted
as an older man with a beard
and is represented by symbols
such as the lightning bolt and
the eagle.
3. Hades – God of the Underworld
Hades is the Greek god of
the dead and the ruler of
the underworld. He is also
associated with great riches,
at times referred to as the god
of wealth/riches. He was the
oldest son of the titan Cronus
and Rhea and the brother of
Zeus and Poseidon.
4. Poseidon – God of the Sea
Poseidon is the violent and ill-
tempered god of the sea. One of
the Twelve
also feared
earthquakes
Olympians, he was
as the provoker of
and worshipped as
the creator of the horse. A hot-
blooded deity, Poseidon had many
disputes with both gods and men,
most famously with Athena and
Odysseus.
5. Ares – God of War
Ares was the ancient Greek god
of war or, more properly, the
spirit of battle. He represented
the distasteful aspects of brutal
warfare and slaughter. Ares was
never very popular, and his
worship was not extensive in
Greece.
6. Aphrodite – Goddess of Love
Aphrodite is the ancient Greek
goddess of sexual love and
beauty, identified with Venus by
the Romans. She was known
primarily as a goddess of love
and fertility and occasionally
presided over marriage.
7. Hera – Goddess of Marriage
Hera is the goddess of
women, marriage, family and
childbirth in ancient Greek
religion and mythology, one of
the twelve Olympians and the
sister and wife of Zeus. She is
the daughter of the Titans
Cronus and Rhea.
8. Demeter – Goddess of Harvest
Demeter is the Greek goddess
of the harvest, grain, and
fertility. She is one of the
Twelve Olympian gods that live
on Mount Olympus. Because
she was the goddess of the
harvest, she was very important
to the farmers and peasant
people of Greece.
9. Athena – Goddess of Wisdom
Athena was the goddess of battle
strategy, and wisdom. Identified
in the Roman mythology as the
goddess Minerva. She was always
accompanied by her owl and the
goddess of victory, Nike. Also
known as Pallas Athena, she wore
a breastplate made out of goatskin
called the Aegis, which was given
to her by her father, Zeus.
10. Artemis – Goddess of Hunt
Artemis, in Greek religion, the
goddess of wild animals, the
hunt, and vegetation and of
chastity and childbirth; she
was identified by the Romans
with Diana. Artemis was the
daughter of Zeus and Leto and
the twin sister of Apollo. Among
the rural populace, Artemis was
the favourite goddess.
