Sebastian Bretschneider discusses his experience setting up a private cloud environment using CloudStack for orchestration, KVM as the hypervisor, and Ceph for storage. The initial environment used NFS for storage but proved not scalable. Ceph was then implemented which provided scalability, high availability, and no downtime during migration. After lessons learned from the first Ceph implementation, the environment was rebuilt using new OSs, XFS, and Ansible automation resulting in improved cluster performance and no customer downtime.
