2. The Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) was
established in 1936 as the Sir Dorabji Tata
Graduate School of Social Work. In 1944, it was
renamed as the Tata Institute of Social Sciences.
The year 1964 was an important landmark in the
history of the Institute, when it was declared
Deemed to be a University under Section 3 of the
University Grants Commission Act (UGC), 1956.

3. Campus Library The effort to establish a well-equipped library at TISS
More than 4000 books are available and many more books are being procured.
As a result the library collection includes books pertaining to the areas of History, Sociology,
Economics, Political Science, Psychology, Education, Women’s Studies, Mathematics, Science,
Language, Literature and Development
Information & Technology Services
Computers for students are available inside the library premises All Students are allocated with
an individual login and password for LDAP authentication, which will be needed for accessing
email, accessing moodle (course management system). Wi-Fi is available in campus, and also
in the hostels. Students who are using their own laptop get connected to the Institute network
through unique IDg to get access to the network.
Hostels
All the hostels are provided with 24/7 security and Wi-Fi services. In addition students are
provided with hot water, washing machine and house keeping facility.
Nutritious food is provided in the hostels and the menu is fixed as per the needs of the
students and by the students.
Separate hostels are provided for girls with trained matrons and round the clock security
Campus Doctor
Campus doctor facility is available for students on designated days and timing for students
across both the campuses. However in emergency students are referred to nearby hospitals
and are assisted by TISS staff.

Accenture, Citibank, Reliance, RPG Group, Samsung and HCL were some of the leading
recruiters.
First time recruiters
TISS saw twelve first time recruiters for placements. First time recruiters include -
Adani Group, Bajaj Auto, Cipla, EXL Service, IBM, IBS Software, Mahindra &
Mahindra, Ranbaxy, Right Management, Samsung, Sutherland Global Services, Trident.

6. Taking own entrance exam that is (TISS-NET)
National Entrance Test (TISS-NET) is computer based.
The selection of candidates for different programmes happens in two stages and has three
components of assessment. All candidates appear for the common entrance test (TISS-NET).
Based on the performance in the TISS-NET examination, only short listed candidates are called
for the Pre Interview Test and Personal Interview.(PIT/PI)

Reservation Policy
(a) Scheduled Castes (SC) 15% of the total seats.
(b) Schedule Tribes (ST) 7.5% of the total seats
(c) Other Backward Classes (OBC( Non-Creamy Layers). 27% of the total seats.
Eligibility
a) Candidates having a bachelor's degree with minimum of 3 years duration or its equivalent (
under the 10+2+3 or 10+2+4 or 10+2+2+1 year bridge course pattern of study or any other
pattern fulfilling the mandatory requirements of 15 years formal education) from a recognized
university are eligible to apply
7. Fee is approximately Rs. 45,000/- per year
