2. Setting
Our slasher horror will be based in an isolated forest area, miles away from any other living sources apart from our
group of teens (so they think). The forest will be full of trees and dark green bushes, in the middle of the forest will
be a large lake; adding to the mystery of the forest and adding to the amount of places to hide for our crazed killer.
The lake adds difficulty to the chase for the teens as it will involve a scene of trying to cross the lake. Connotations
of a large lake in a slasher film are usually bad, it involves our scared to death teens in a race to cross the lake
before our masked killer strikes its next victim.
Furthermore, by basing our setting in a huge forest, it creates plenty of places for our killer to lurk behind the trees,
it also highlights how no matter how loud our teens scream, no one can hear them.
3. Characters
Jessie: Our final girl, she will be braver than the other girls, intelligent and logical. At the first sign of weirdness in the forest she is quick to sense
something is not right. She advises the rest of the group to get out of the forest, yet they doubt her senses and tell her to stop being boring and
stupid. Jessie survives till the end and faces the killer, she manages to burn down his shed where all of his twisted work and collection of
body parts lay, where he breaks down in hysterics. This highlights how she is able to use his weakness to her advantage, allowing her to run
away just in time.
Amelia: Contrasting to the character of Jessie, Amelia is a ditzy blonde who is overly excited for a drunken weekend with her boyfriend Robbie
and the rest of the group. She wears light revealing costume throughout the film, highlighting how she will be punished for her reckless and
over sexual behavior (conventional in slasher films). She will be the first to die out of the group, after her time spent with her boyfriend she is
sent back to the car to get some more alcohol and blankets, yet she never returns. Her death is also the most gory compared to the other
characters, yet it is quick and easy as she falls easily into the hands of the killer due to her slow reaction and lack of ideas to get away.
Robbie; Robbie is the alpha male of the group, he is also the most good looking of the other males, he is very proud of his looks and tends to show
off a lot. He is a loud mouthed, attention seeker who enjoys to flaunt his muscles and flirt with the other girls. He is the boyfriend of Amelia
and discovers her body brutally beaten and left on the top of his car. This is when we see his overly masculine side decrease and his real fear
kicks in. The masked killer does not like the idea of competition of a masculine figure in his forest, and sees him as no such threat, Rob is
second to be killed.
Emily: Emily is Jessie's best friend, they both share common interests and are very intelligent teenagers, she is known as being much smarter
than the rest of the group. She was always very timid and worried about a weekend away in the forest yet, she is also the youngest of the
group aged 18, as soon as the killing spree goes on she confides in Jessie and looks up to her for help and clings to her like a child. The
audience sympathize for the character of Jessie as she is portrayed as weak. However, due to her closeness with Jessie she stays till the end
of the slasher, the audience pray she will make it out in time, yet just as they get to the edge of the exit she falls into a large ditch which was
set up as a trap by the masked killer, Jessie looks back in horror and frustration as she is left alone without her closest companion. Jessie was
so close to keeping her safe till the end, however this motivates her to get out alive and to defeat this horrible and psychotic killer.
4. The Antagonist
Inspired by Michael Myers, our killer will be masked and dressed all in black with his clothes
slightly tattered to show his time spent in the forest and the amount of people he has killed in a
cat and mouse chase. His costume will be splattered with blood to show his crazed love for killing
sprees and his addiction to brutality.
The name of our antagonist is: Jake Woods however, the myth goes by the name ...
Throughout the beginning of the film, our teens joke about the myth of ... and Jenny Malcom's.
His weapon will be iconic throughout our film, it will be an axe, to go along with the theme of
forests and trees. An axe also adds to the gore and gruesome deaths.
5. The Plot
Our narrative follows the simple conventions of a slasher. A group of reckless
teens set out for a drunken camping trip in a mythical 'haunted' forest. They set
out to find out about the myth of missing Jenny Malcolm's, who went missing
three years ago in the forest.
The campers set out to have a wild experience in the forest however when
rustling of the trees and night begins to fall, Jessie becomes uncomfortable with
her surroundings and senses something is not quite right. When Amelia sets out
to fetch blankets and more alcohol, a yell is heard from the teens car. When they
approach the vehicle, they see her body brutally attacked and left on the bonnet,
with the words 'happy camping' splattered in her blood. This frightens the teens
and sends them on a headless mission to escape the forest. However, it is not as
easy as they anticipated as Jake Woods the masked killer sets out plenty of
traps for them to fall victim to.
6. Outline: Trailer
For our trailer, we will open with an upbeat non diegetic soundtrack as our reckless teens zoom into
the forest in their car. An establishing shot will be used to begin the trailer to show their surroundings
and the isolation of the forest. A poster will also be shown of missing Jenny Malcolm's, foreshadowing
the danger to come for the teens. It will begin happy and cheerful until night begins to fall.
The teens will be seen drinking and laughing inside the car, highlighting their reckless and carefree
personalities, and their excitement for their camping trip. It will cut from character to character, so the
audience have a basic knowledge of the types of characters in our horror film.
A stab sound will then be heard as night falls and another establishing shot will be used to foreshadow
the bas happenings which will start to begin. Amelia will be shown disappearing to the car and a point
of view shot will be used from the perspective of the killer. A loud scream will then be heard by the
other teens, followed by another stab sound. From this, a montage will be carried out highlighting all of
the action which follows from the death of Amelia. As a stab sound of the killers axe is heard, this
symbolises another death. This will create anticipation for our audience watching our trailer and get
them excited for a nail biting slasher with lots of gruesome deaths.
