We could share the Tale of the Telomere……
(the telomere is a tail on the DNA)
How cells are functioning (or not) is the epicentre of health… perception of
happiness, focus, energy, mood, disease prevention – the overall ability to
optimize a person’s ability to function
When we talk about true health and stress management- we need to go right down
to the very center of our being – cell health, our cell-being…all 70 trillion!!

the HRA will give us great insight into designing your

13. Chronic Disease Management/ Prevention
Chronic diseases and conditions are
the major drivers of sickness, disability,
and health care costs in the nation
Half of all adults—have 1+ chronic
health conditions. One of four adults had
two or more chronic health conditions.
7/10 causes of death in 2015 were chronic
diseases. Two of these chronic diseases—
heart disease and cancer—together
accounted for nearly 48% of all deaths.
80% of these preventable
Diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes:
29.1 million people or 9.3% of the population have diabetes.
Undiagnosed: 8.1 million people (27.8% of people with
diabetes are undiagnosed).2015
14. Sleep Disorders in the Workplace
The economic burden of undiagnosed sleep apnea among American adults is
approximately $149.6 billion in 2015. Sleep Apnea is only 1/80 possible sleep
disorders.
Sleep Dysfunctions
▪ 50% less productive
▪ 3.6 X more in medical claims costs
▪ Unknowingly, are responsible for 80% of healthcare costs
▪ 3 X more likely to cause workplace accidents
▪ 2.2 X more likely to cause extended disability
▪ 242% more sick days
15. Smoking Cessation
A June 2013 study Professor Micah Berman of Ohio State U reveals the costs
of employees who smoke is far greater than estimated by the CDC. The
average cost burden of a smoker to the employer is $6,000/year greater than
a never smoked employee. Professor Berman’s data is crucial to companies
considering implementing a smoking cessation program.

16. Oxidative Stress…..Physiological Stress
Our health risk assessments and health
processes include a detailed measurement
of oxidative stressors in our lives. From this
we build better coping mechanisms,
maximizing health and performance.
Cancer, aging, heart disease…mood
disturbances….many of these are the product of a
disturbance to our cellular health. The functioning of our
cells are are affected by the constant bombardment of
viruses, toxins, mutagens, carcinogens, bacteria and we
are at the mercy of having a strong inner ecosystem
(immune system, circulation, digestive system….) to
keep us our of cellular stress. What we need to do is
discover what oxidative stressors we have in our lives,
that are sabotaging our best efforts.
17. Financial Stress
An April 2017 study by CreditCards.com ( a credit card
comparison company) showed money is causing 65% of
Americans to lose sleep at night. Healthcare & insurance costs
overtook retirement savings as the primary source of anxiety,
for the first time in a decade. This is a 3% increase in sleepless
nights since 2015.
High financial stress levels and concerns over debt are associated with
increased risk for ulcers, migraines, heart attacks, and of course sleep
disturbances, according to the American Psychological Association (APA),
and those conditions are “ just the beginning of how your money affects your
body and mind.” As a result of financial stress, people adopt poor coping
mechanisms, lifestyle choices. In this study the APA found 69% of Americans
were stressed about money, and the most common coping mechanisms
included binge eating and excessive alcohol consumption and depression is a
common result of financial stress
18. Nutrition & Digestion…We are NOT just what we eat…..but if we didn’t digest &
absorb it…..we did not feed our body
The immune system present in the gut makes more immunological
decisions in a day than the rest of the immune system does in a lifetime
Naturopathy and ancient Chinese medicine have
recognized the extent of the gut flora’s role in human
health and disease. Only recently, all medicine is
beginning to address gut health from this perspective.
Among other things, the gut flora promotes normal
gastrointestinal function, provides protection from
infection, regulates metabolism and, again, comprises
more than 75% of our immune system. It is our immune
optimization that determines our state of well being.
19. Work/Life Integration
Work life balance requires a meeting of 3 cultures – the workplace culture, the culture
within the employee, and the culture within their personal community
A 2015 study by Ernst & Young polled 1200 employees
from 8 countries around the world. 1/3 participants said
work life balance is becoming more difficult. A study a
few months earlier found that there was a large
disconnect between human resources and employees.
67% of HR professionals said their employees had a
good work life balance, where only 45% of the employees
agreed with that, reporting that they had little time for a
personal life.
20. Physical Activity & Exercise
Poor diet, lack of exercise
and other major risk factors
for heart disease and
stroke are responsible for at
least 25 percent of
companies healthcare
costs. Is it any wonder,
then, that investing in the
health of employees is one
of the best decisions a
company can make?
American Heart
Association….
21. Cognitive Functioning & Productivity
Cognitive health determines what work we can do and for how long and is
strongly affected by physical health, sleep hygiene, nutrition, physical
activity and exposure to oxidative stressors. Cumulatively, we have the
foundation for cognitive functioning, therefore, performance and
productivity.
Neuroplasticity…..A message from the CDC…
“The CDC priorities reflect expansive literature focused on modifiable lifestyle and behavioral
factors potentially associated with cognitive decline. A key concept underlying these efforts is the
idea of neuroplasticity, or the capacity of the brain to reorganize, change its neural structure, and
form new neural connections throughout life. The discovery of the brain’s ability to grow new
neurons at any age represents a major departure from the previous understanding of the brain as
fully formed early in life. Researchers now believe that the brain changes throughout life, growing
new cells and altering neural structures in response to certain environmental input.” ……Aging is
not a disease. Understanding how our lifestyle choices and exposures influences our
neuroplasticity is the key to continued cognitive performance, increasing our ability to learn,
perform and become increasingly productive.
22. Sexual Health
A July 2015 study from the University of Warwick concluded
“We find that human happiness has large and positive causal
effects on productivity. Positive emotions appear to invigorate
human beings.” Happy employees average a 12% spike in
productivity while unhappy employees tend to be 10% less
productive.
A 2014 study (University of L’Aquila, L’Aquila, Italy)
concluded over half of men with erectile dysfunction
do not discuss it with their physician and have a
decreased HRQoL (health related quality of life) and
a significantly higher impairment on work
productivity.
23. Circadian Rhythms / Hormonal Balance
• Poor communication skills
• Deterioration in job performance
• Problems with focus and attention
• Impairments in driving or operating heavy equipment
• More costly workplace errors
• Reduced ability to learn and remember new things on the job
• Increases in disordered mood
• A higher likelihood for taking unhealthy risks
• Loss of flexibility and adaptability while at work
24. HRA: Health Risk Assessment
CCA: Corporate Culture Assessment
Incentivizing with Wearable Technology
BICH can also design an Incentivized with wearable technology program. Along
with the HRA & CCA, for the cost of the wearable technology only, BICH further
customizes the HRA and the wellness programs based on the detailed biometrics
obtained from the wearable device.
New heights of personalization…..employees biometrics determine the wellness
program…..
