1. Calling all Woodworkers!! It has been centuries since the war at the Well of Eternity. The events that took place so many years ago have forever shaken the foundations of Azeroth as we know it today. Despite the many attempts to fend off Sargeras, the rampaging Orcs from Outland, and having to face one of Azeroth’s own along with the scourge, the spirits of those that dwell in this simple land seem to be lifted. A truce has been set between the Alliance and the Horde. The dragon aspects have made their home in Northrend to watch over those whom were put into the trust of the Titans. And the countless armies from both sides have began their march to Ice Crown to face the Lich King. Though these times seem simple enough, they are, in fact, a time of war. One of the greatest battles Azeroth has ever seen is about to awaken and disrupt life as it has come to be known. The great dragon aspect, Deathwing, has awoken deep within the core of their peaceful, yet struggling, planet.

2. His awakening has broken many homes as well as the lands on which they rest. The people of Azeroth, however, have learned from the battles in the past. They have also learned of many things in the past that can help them on the present battlefield. In the first war there was a great Orc warrior, sent back in time along with the magi Rhonin and the great Dragon mage Krasus. Broxigar, as his name was, was sent by Thrall to investigate a disturbance in the distant mountains. Nozdormu, the Bronze dragon aspect, Keeper of Time, managed to direct the three to the time of the First War in efforts to disrupt the events from taking place. While back in that time, the three from the present managed to meet up with Malfurian and Illidan Stormrage. The former, a student of the demigod Cenarius, learned the ways of the druid. The latter had an unending hunger for the concentrated magic in the Well of Eternity.

3. Malfurian’s master, Cenarius, stumbled across Rhonin, Krasus, and Broxigar in the woods. After many days of contemplating their presence, Cenarius deemed them a much needed asset in the upcoming battle against the demons and minions sent by Sargeras himself. He summoned the powers of nature to craft an unbreakable axe, made entirely from wood, for the great Broxigar to wield against their uprising foes. After many battles won, and lost, the demons found themselves backed into a corner in the great city of Azshara. The combined forces of the Night Elves, Tauren, Earthen, Rhonin, Broxigar, and Krasus, with the help of the 4 dragon flights, they managed to close the Well of Eternity, trapping the mighty Sargeras inside his realm.

4. However, it was only with the power of the Demon Soul, worn by the Earth Warden, now named Deathwing, that they were able to seal off the well completely. In the process of these events a great maelstrom was created which split the continent of Azeroth into two separate entities. Also, to the great misfortune of the time traveler, Broxigar was also lost in the Well. He was sucked in by the fierce winds of the maelstrom and even as he was falling to his doom the others heard him fighting and slaying demons with every ounce of strength in his body. The wooden axe slicing through demon flesh unabated and with great power. The legend of the great Orc warrior still lives on to this day. Those that fought by his side spread word of his wooden axe, crafted by Cenarius, and how it’s power alone was more than any one man should wield.

5. For the Horde!! The Orcs, a once peaceful people from Draenor, used to have great faith in the forces of nature. But the Bloodlust, presented to Gul’dan by Sargeras himself and then betrothed upon the orcs, forced them to strip Draenor of all natural resources and turn their backs on the once peaceful magic and dependencies of shamanism. After coming through the portal and razing Stormwind to the ground, after their alliance with the trolls and the march to the human capital in Lorderan, the orcs faced utter defeat. The humans forced the orcs into imprisonment and enslavement. The orcs were somber, docile, and most had lost their will to live. Then word came around of an orc, raised by humans, and had escaped his confining restraints, named Thrall. He began to learn and understand the wrongs of his people on this new land and, under the direction of a great orc chieftain, began learning the ways of the shaman. The magic, found only in nature, was all he needed to free his brothers from human captivity and control. He decided to leave the human lands of Lorderan and head across the great sea to the continent of Kalimdor.

6. For the Horde!! Cont. There he established a city in the name of another great orc chieftain Orgrim Doomhammer. The city would come to be known as Orgrimmar. The ability of his people to craft great things out of wood, Catapults, Ballistae, and many different weapons, created a great feeling of pride inside of him. The lumber taken from the Warsong Lumber Camp provided the orcs, a race now wanting only peace and the opportunity to right their wrongs, with the great fortress they have today. After Thrall had heard of the unfortunate taking of Broxigar’s life, he set out to find the best woodcrafters among the Horde. Someone to duplicate this great axe crafted by Cenarius and wielded by his great late warrior. Since his search began many have stepped forward to assist in this effort. The constant studying of magic contained in nature through shamanism, and druidism alike, have helped the Horde races produce some of the greatest, most powerful weapons and relics to this day.

7. Alliance Forever The Alliance, recovering from the onslaught of the bloodthirsty orcs from Draenor, began rebuilding the capital of the southern lands, Stormwind. They hired a great ship worker by the name of Edwin Van Cleef to oversee the restructuring and rebuilding of all of Stormwind. The lumber found in Elwynn Forest, harvested by Eastvale Logging Camp, served as the main source of materials for their efforts. The mage from Dalaran, Rhonin, had spread word of his adventures fighting alongside the dragon mage Krasus and the great orc warrior Broxigar. Word of Broxigar’s mighty wooden axe was also spread among the Alliance races. The dwarves wouldn’t have any of this nonsense. Being mountain dwellers, they believed their steel and iron works to be the strongest of all weapons.

8. Alliance Forever Cont. The magi in the magic city of Dalaran, however believed the tales of this wooden axe to be true. They searched their scrolls and tomes and found tale of a big green warrior that wielded a wooden axe. The evidence, written in elfish, proved to the Alliance races that a weapon of this caliber could prove useful in the event the orcs decided to quell an uprising and attack the humans once again. Upon hearing this news a call was put out to all Alliance woodcrafters for those that were able, to step up and attempt to duplicate this axe. With the assistance of magic from the magi of Dalaran, the Night Elf druids of Kalimdor and the great craftsmanship of those that stepped forward, the Alliance have crafted many weapons and relics that will, and shall, prove useful on any battlefield.

What recipes are necessary and what materials are required for them? What exactly will be the result of the profession as far as stat changes and enhancements be?

18. Recipes The recipes can be random drops as with any recipe while leveling. Special recipes for level 15-25 can drop from the ship workers in Deadmines (they use wood on the ship) or from the druids in Wailing Caverns. Level25-35 recipes can drop from the gnomes in Gnomeregan or the dwarves in Uldaman, also the HillsbradFarmers, and Trolls in Stranglethorn Vale. Level 35-45 recipes from the dock workers in Tanaris and Bloodsail Buccaneers in Stranglethorn Vale. Also, from Scarlet Monastery and Zul’Farak. Level 45-55 recipes from the dwarves in Searing Gorge, the Ogres in Feralas or Tanaris, Blackrock Depths, or the trolls in the Temple of Atal’Hakkar. Once in Outlands, the possibilities are endless. You can also include recipes from various old world rep factions, i.e. Timbermaw Hold, Cenarion Circle, and Argent Dawn.

19. Recipes(cont.) They can provide recipes that create idols (CenarionCircle), librams (Argent Dawn), and totems (Timbermaw Hold). All three of these factions have classes associated with these relics. Not to mention the rewards from gaining rep with these factions besides an achievement. You can even introduce level 80 recipes to those that are exalted with these factions. In Outlands new recipes can be added to vendors for Thrallmar, Honor Hold, Cenarian Expedition, and Kurenai for staves, relics, and other items from levels 60-80. These recipes will only be available to those with required reputation. The same can be said for the various factions in Northrend.

20. Recipes(cont.) The following slides show the recipes that will be available at the trainer. These items can be used by those that have the required weapon skills and meet the required level of use. I only took it up to skill level 225 as it is just an example.

25. Recipes(cont.) In these examples, one item required for shaping the wood was with the use of a lathe, be it copper, silver, gold, etc. This item can be crafted by either a blacksmith or an engineer and it can be taught at the trainer. This item will be a requirement for woodworking much like an enchanter requires enchanting rods. But without the hassle of needing additional materials. It can be used as is straight from the blacksmith.

26. Recipes(cont.) There can be a quest available to those that have a skill level in woodworking of 225 and a minimum character level of 35. The quest will require materials that will be collected from 4 different zones. Upon completion of the quest you may select one of 4 blueprints to craft an epic item. These items, as well as the blueprints, bind to the character upon creation. The blueprints could be for a staff, mace, bow, or crossbow.

27. Trainers and Background The trainers for Alliance can be in Eastvale Logging Company in Elwynn Forest and in Dark Shore. For Horde the trainers can be in Crossroads or near the Ashenvale border, in association with Warsong Lumber Camp and in Brill. The histories for alliance can be traced back to the times of Cenarious and the first war, when he crafted the axe for Broxigar. For the Horde, the history can go back before they became filled with Bloodlust on their home planet. They lived a peaceful life and worked well with their crafts. The trainers in Outlands and Northrend can have some sort of tie to the coming of the Burning Legion or the Lich King, respectively.

28. Changes and Enhancements Their won’t be much of a variation to current item level stats but they can be enhanced with items from woodworking. Not necessarily in lower level items but in higher levels. Enhancements will include such items as placing gem slots on weapon handles or staves, (something that isn’t in game content at this time), the afore mentioned relics (idols, totems, sigils, and librams), being able to add a cushion-like enhancement on guns that increase hit or crit rating, reinforcements for bows/crossbows that increase attack power, crit, or hit rating, and many other applications.

29. Changes and Enhancements(cont.) This will make woodworking comparable to engineering in being able to enhance rangedweapons. All weapons should be comparable to world drops or slightly increased for level of usage. Just as with any loot drop. Items that are of rare quality should be comparable to instance dropped items of the same level with some minor changes. Also, being able to gather your own resources should increase your hit rating much like skinning increases your critical strike rating and mining increases your stamina. After all, spending all that time chopping down trees should guarantee an almost perfect hit. Overall it should be equal or slightly better than the normal drops in any given area.

30. Art assets I’m not much of an artist so I can’t really contribute to this topic.

31. Supporting Technology Seeing as there isn’t much of a need for lumberjacks in-game, I think woodworkers are entitled to harvesting their own lumber. The type of technology that can be used can be taken from the Argent Tournament daily quest that requires players to chop down trees in Crystalsong Forest. Take away the aggressor after the tree is harvested and increase respawn time. Harvesting can start out the skill much like disenchanting starts out enchanting, up to skill level 40. With the implementation of “sparkling” objects, one should be able to spot a “harvestable” tree and take the appropriate action.

32. Supporting Technology(cont.) Woodworkers with skill level of 150 or higher can train to find “harvestable” trees much like herbalists train to find herbs via their minimap. One can train on how to harvest/use different trees in different skill levels. Also, skill points gained from harvesting can scale in the same manner as herbalism, being based on item level equal to or lesser than their woodworking skill level. Woodworkers will have to use devices located in certain towns for certain crafting. Recipes will indicate which items are required.

33. Supporting Technology(cont.) Much in the same manner that blacksmiths use anvils and hammers, woodworkers will have a wood press. Using a wood press, woodworkers can combine different woods together to create rare or epic woods. This ability can be done once every 2 days much in the same manner that alchemists can perform transmutes. The idea is to have fun with it, not get tired of farming materials just to level it up.

34. For the people, By the people As you can tell, I have put some thought into this indicating that I would like to have it as a profession. There are only so many items already in game that are crafted yet staves, bows, and crossbows are nowhere to be found. I think it would add an interesting spin on things in both lower and higher level play. I think overall that people will try it out at least once just to see how beneficial it can be.

35. Ultimate FUN!! The fun factor would coincide with the ability to find the rare or epic wood from the “wood press” for the epic piece they want crafted. And in being able to socket a weapon, which is not implemented at all, and is the only item that doesn’t have many sockets to begin with. As long as it doesn’t take an enormous amount of materials to level up and the mats are easy to come across and harvest I think it can be a very entertaining profession.
