CT-SCAN (COMPUTED
TOMOGRAPHY)
BY GROUP-2 (MAD2206-MAD2210)
Introduction On
CT-scan:-
A CT (Computed Tomography) scan
machine is a specialized medical
imaging device that uses X-rays and
computer technology to produce
detailed, cross-sectional images of the
body’s internal structure.
These images can be used to diagnose
a wide range of medical conditions,
from cancer and heart disease to
neurological disorder and trauma.
Components Of CT-Scan Machine:-
X-ray Tube
X-Ray Tube
Detectors
Detector
Gantry

Components Of CT-Scan Machine:-
Table
Bed
Computer
Computer
Operator Console
Control System
Working Of A CT-Scan Machine:-
1. The patient lies down on a narrow table, which is them moved onto the gantry of the
CT scanner.
2. The gantry houses an X-ray tube and detectors that rotate around the patient during
the scan. As the X-ray tube rotates, it emits a series of the beams of X-rays through the
body.
3. The detectors receive the X-rays after they pass through the body and convert them
into electrical signal, which are sent to a computer for processing.
4. The computer processes the signals and reconstructs the data into detailed cross-
sectional images of the body, which can be viewed on monitor.
5. The radiologic technologist monitors the scan from an operator console and may give
the patient instruction or adjust the scan parameters as needed.
6. Once the scan is complete, the patients moved out of the gantry and the images ate
reviewed by a radiologist, who interprets the result and make a diagnosis.
7. The entire process is usually quick and painless, taking only a few minutes to complete.
Video Representation On CT-Scan:-
Application Of CT-Scan Machine:-
CT (Computed Tomography) scan machines have many application in medical diagnosis and
treatment planning. Here are some of the common uses of CT scans:
1. Detecting and diagnosing medical conditions: CT scans can be used to diagnose
many different types of conditions, such as cancer, bone fracture, internal
bleeding, blood clots, infections and more.
2. Monitoring and evaluating treatment: CT scans can be used to monitor the
progression of a disease of the effectiveness of treatment.
3. Planning and guiding medical procedures: CT scans can be used to plan and guide
certain medical procedures, such as biopsies, surgeries, and radiation therapy.
4. Screening for medical conditions: CT scans can be used in medical research and
education to study the anatomy and function of the body.
Overall, CT scan are a valuable tool for healthcare providers to diagnose and teat medical
conditions, and for patients to receive accurate and timely medical care.
Types Of Problems Diagnosed By CT-Scan
Machine:-
CT scans can diagnose a wide range of medical conditions, including.
1. Cancer: CT scans can detect tumors, and help to determine their size, location and
whether they have spread to other parts of the body.
2. Trauma and injuries: CT scans can identify fractures, internal bleeding, and other
injuries caused by accidents or trauma.
3. Cardiovascular disease: CT scans can diagnose blockages in the arteries that
supply blood to the heart, as well as structural problems with the heart and
surrounding blood vessels.
4. Neurological disorders: CT scans can detect abnormalities in the brain or spine,
such as tumors, hemorrhages, or structural abnormalities.
Types Of Radiations Used In CT-
Scans:-
1. The X-rays are a form of ionizing radiation, which
means that they have enough energy to remove
electrons from atom and molecules in the body.
2. Although the amount of radiation used in a CT scans is
relatively Low, there is small risk of radiation exposure,
particularly for repeated scans.
3. To minimize this risk, radiologic technologists and
radiologists follow established safety guidelines, such
as using the lowest possible radiation dose and using
other imaging methods, such as MRI or ultrasound,
when possible.
4. There are always small risks of radiation exposure, as
CT scans can provide valuable information about a
wide range of medical conditions, including cancer,
heart disease, and injuries.
Advantages & Disadvantages Of CT- Scans:-
Advantages
1. Detailed images
2. Versatility
3. Speed
4. Non-invasive
5. Pain free
6. Widely available
7. Valuable in emergency situation
Disadvantages
1.Radiation exposure
2. Contrast material risks
3. Costs
4.Limited soft tissue contrast
5.Metal artifacts
