3. UAV -- Definition
The UAV is an acronym for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle,
which is an aircraft with no pilot on board. UAVs can be
remote controlled aircraft or can fly autonomously based on
pre-programmed flight plans or more complex dynamic
automation systems.

4. UAV -- background
The earliest recorded use of an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle
for warfighting occurred on August 22, 1849.Soon after,
on September 12, the Hewitt-Sperry Automatic Airplane,
otherwise known as the “flying bomb” made its first

9. UAV -- future development
A possible future research is aimed at performing forest
surveys to further evaluate the UAV’s potential within the
forestry industry. These surveys will be designed to assess
the UAV as a tool which allows forest managers to make
more informed decisions on pruning and thinning regimes,
monitoring tree health and defoliation.
