The 3D CAD model is constituted of
the engine cylinder block material and
the fluid domain corresponding to the
water jacket.
In order to create a lumped thermal
model, both CAD bodies are split into 4
different bodies that correspond to the
number of cylinders.

For the fluid domain, the heat exchange surface and the fluid ports are
selected.
For the thermal capacities, the heat exchange surfaces for forced
convection, conduction and free convection with ambient are selected.
The 3D CAD model includes the engine cylinder block material and the
fluid domain corresponding to the water jacket.

automatically performed.
The type of heat exchanges (forced convection, free

Application: aircraft environmental control system (ECS)
The main purpose of the pneumatic distribution system is to supply
high-pressure air from the sources to the consumers.
A pneumatic distribution system connecting the engine bleed systems,
the APU and the air conditioning consumers is considered here.
We start from the following CAD model of an aircraft pneumatic distribution
system created with Siemens NX software.
This CAD model is imported in the
CAD2AME productivity tool of LMS Amesim.

Since all parameters are set automatically, the model can be run to get the
distributions of mass flow rates and pressures in the system.

several parts at once.
In complex piping network, some
bodies have to be split in
elementary elements.
With the Split body feature the 3D
CAD model is pre-processed to

LMS Imagine.Lab Amesim supports Modelica, the open standard language for
describing physical systems. The Modelica platform provides the tools you need to
build acausal, multidomain Modelica models and leverage the LMS Amesim platform
features to analyze the resulting system.
LMS Amesim can be coupled with external software applications such as CAE, CAD,
CAM, FEA/FEM and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). Co-simulation provides
coupling between LMS Amesim and CAE tools with predefined setups to ensure good
dialog between the tools and simulation software.
LMS Amesim provides co-simulation capabilities with any software coupled with LMS
Amesim due to the generic co-simulation capability and functional mock-up interface
(FMI), to complete heterogeneous simulations within an unique integration platform.
The LMS Amesim unique integrated platform provides realistic plant models for every
stage of the development cycle, enabling system and control engineers to start
evaluation and validation phases early in the design cycle using model-in-the-loop
(MiL), software-in-the-loop (SiL) and hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) frameworks.
LMS Amesim integrates cutting-edge numerical methods, performance analyzer,
discrete partitioning library for CPU speed-up, a parallel processing feature for
multiprocessor task distribution as well as High Performance Computing (HPC).

A pneumatic distribution system connecting the engine bleed systems, the APU and the air conditioning consumers is considered here. The Modelica platform provides the tools you need to build acausal, multidomain Modelica models and leverage the LMS Amesim platform features to analyze the resulting system.
