Let’s analyse…
• How did you feel about the activity?
• What are your thoughts on the activity?
• What is the relationship between pictures
in Set A to Set B?
• What are the things that you might
associate with human freedom?
• How does a human person exercise
freedom?
Discussion…
• Freedom – an intrinsic and essential
property of the human person
• Free will – the ability to choose from
various alternatives
• Self-determination – the human capacity
to regulate his/her course of action
Aspects of Freedom
• Freedom as the human ability to self-create – as
rational beings, humans have the capacity to
identify the things that will enable him/her to live
life to the fullest (ex. talents, skills, ideals, views,
etc.) are products of human freedom of choice
• Freedom as product of self-determination – a
human person can choose to act in a positive
manner and become a good person or can
choose to go the other way around and have
negative impact on him/her as a person
• Freedom as self-control – “do what you
ought to do,”; a human person is freer
when s/he exercise control over his/her
choices (ex. drug/alcohol dependents are
less free because they are controlled by
their cravings)
• Freedom as humanizer – by nature, human
should be free; however there are
instances that this freedom is lessen or
totally lost because of some reasons like
slavery, imprisonment, poverty, etc.
Kinds of Freedom
• Physical freedom – refers to absence of any
physical restraints; even persons with
physical disability can have this freedom
when s/he determines his/her actions
according to his/her abilities
• Psychological freedom – this is the freedom
of choice utilizing one’s intellect which is
innate in every person; no external
influence can force a person to do
something against her will
• Moral freedom – the use of freedom in
upholding human dignity and growth;
humans have natural goodness and going
against that character is negating freedom
Let’s apply…
• How does your freedom help in making
right/sound choices?
Let's evaluate...
• What is freedom?
• What is free will?
• What is self-determination?
• Name at least one aspect of freedom.
• Name at least one type of freedom.
