7. October Kindergarten News
• Reading- We will be sending reading bags with books
home this month! We have practiced some of the books in
the classroom and some of the books will be leveled books!
Make sure to read 20 minutes every night!
• Writing- We are working on writing like scientists. We
are observing, labeling, and investigating like scientists!
• Math- Work on counting to 25 and recognizing numbers
1-10. Also, work on counting 10 objects!
• Science/Social Studies- Pumpkins, Columbus Day, and
holidays, Materials and Motion, Push and Pull

Some Ways You Can Help Your Child at Home
Reading: Read with your child. When they get stuck on a word, tell them to use
their strategies to help them fix it!
Math: Practice counting with your child and give them simple addition and
subtraction story problems to solve.
Writing: Help your child come up with topics they could give their opinion about.
Science/ Social Studies: Watch videos with your child about citizenship!
9. 2nd Grade News
Reading
We are starting a new
reading unit. We are shopping
for nonfiction books and a few
fiction books. Ask your child
to tell you about the
information they are learning
in their nonfiction book.
Writing
We are starting a
nonfiction unit. Help your
child by talking to them
about things you are an
expert on (ex: gardening,
working on cars, etc.)
Math
We are starting a Geometry
unit where students are
identifying 2-D and 3-D
shapes. To help your child
identify shapes, go on a
shape scavenger hunt!
Word Study
Have your child look for words that they are studying
in the books they are bringing home. To really get
them excited about this work give them a Post-It to
write down the words.!

3rd grade?

School is in full swing and the kids
are doing great! We have built
power reading lives, mastered
some multiplication, and created
some incredible friendships.
OCTOBER FOCUS:
READING: Non-fiction, reading to learn
MATH: Graphs and line plots
WRITING: Information writing
PLTW: Forces and Interactions
SOCIAL STUDIES: Countries around the worl,
starting with the USA!
11. Social Studies/Science:
We will be learning about Colonial Life in our content
centers! We are also learning about soils, rocks, and
minerals in science!!
Reading:
We have started a new and EXCITING nonfiction unit on Weather!!
We will be conducting whole class research projects and then
individual research projects! We are reading LOTS of nonfiction
books and learning how to take notes about what we have learned!
Writing:
We just started learning about essays! In this opinion
writing unit, we will be writing persuasive and personal
essays!!
Math:
We are finishing up our unit on collecting data. Our
next unit focuses on multiplication and division! Please
help your child learn their multiplication facts at
homes.
12. 5th Grade- October
Math- Students will be finding
volume of rectangular prisms using
the volume formula. Students will
also be continuing reviewing
multiplication and division.
Science- Earth and Sun: Students
will be learning about the Sun,
Planetary Systems, Earth’s
Atmosphere, as well as Water on
the Earth.
Social Studies- Students will be
studying exploration in the
Western Hemisphere
Reading- Students will be
investigating Non-Fiction texts
by reading analytically and
applying knowledge about
nonfiction reading to inquiry
projects. Students should be
bringing home a book everyday.
Writing-Students will be
drawing on all that we already
know about informational
writing and work towards
creating an article on an area
of personal expertise..
