In 2008, the first team began with English classes for teachers (much needed because education had been in Arabic until 2005; now the school curriculum must be in English)Later in 2008 into early 2009, the new team worked on developing the TTI curriculum for in-service, based on the GOSS MoEST curriculum. In March 2009, the 4-year in-service program began with 47 teachers from 22 primary schoolshave enrolled. 5 staff members – 4 sisters from Canada, Ireland, India and 1Southern Sudanese teach a 2-month face to face session, followed by supervision visits during the 10 months that primary schools are in session. The TTI plan calls for the Malakal to be the center for a distance learning model of teacher training and to have up to eight satellite centers in different dioceses. (This depends on funds.)More personnel are expected for education/TTI: 3 De LaSalle Brothers are expected in the future: Bill Firman and Heldon Fernando in September and Denis Loft in January 2010, and MFIC – NualaMulleady in Sept. Not all may be going to Malakal…to be decided.
