Tour
based
WS
Standing idle and talking contributed 55% of NVA
activities as there was lack of supervisors.
Deployment of 2 supervisors.
Waiting for materials contributed 20% of NVA
activities.
To minimize waiting for materials,
preplanning of activities is required
by accessing daily and weekly
schedules.
Crew

mapping
The intermediate storage of plywood at
individual floor and operation location was
redundant
The single transfer of materials from central
work location to fitting location
The setting up of central work place at
courtyard wherein all carpentry work can be
streamlined
The workplace was distributed all over the
building
Inventory management issue as the plywood was
kept at so many locations

Crew based chart for as-is condition
Detection phase-
• The workers were idle most of the time (39% of total time) due to unclear
sequence of activities.
• The workers are not assigned with clear roles as evident from the CBC.
• The M4 is idle for most of the time.
• M9 & M10 were idle and waiting for most of the time.
Observation from As-Is Condition
• Workers were idle for almost 39% of the cycle time.
• From the table, it is observed that M4. M9 & M10 seem to be more idle, mostly waiting for the mixed
concrete.
Duration distribution of various activities in as-in condition
Observation from As-Is Condition
Crew based chart after 1st iteration
Improvement phase-
• The M4 was completely idle, hence he was removed.
• M9 & M10 whose major work was transporting was removed and assigned the same activity to M8.
• Clear roles has been assigned to Masons M6 & M7 in sequence to spread the Concrete.
• Masons M1, M2 & M5 starts levelling in a sequence after the spreading is done.
• The Pouring activity is completed with in seconds, so it was not considered in CBC.

Cost Improvement after 1st Iteration
Crew based chart after 2nd iteration Improvement phase-
• The works of Mason M1 was removed and the same activity was distributed to M2
& M5 in a sequence.
• The main activity of Mason M3 was spreading and the same activity was assigned to
M7 in continuous manner. in such a way that there is no idle time for M7.
