Scripture Readings for Sunday July 14th The 8th Sunday after Pentecost

Gluten free wafers are available for communion. To indicate your need, please pick
up a purple card from a sidesperson. With the purple card in your hand at the altar
rail, the communion minister will know that you require a gluten free wafer.
All baptized Christians, regardless of denomination or age, are invited to receive
Communion in the Anglican Church. If you do not wish to receive the bread and wine,
please come to the Altar, and cross your arms over your chest to receive a blessing.
Children are welcome at St. Nicholas’! Children are invited to attend our Church
School Program downstairs during the 10:30am service.
If you are new to our parish, or you are visiting, we invite you to

Please note: for the months of July and August the Church Office will be closed on
Fridays. The office will be open, as usual, Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to
12 noon. In the case of a pastoral emergency, outside of office hours, please

2. To coincide with the beginning of the summer holidays, the Blessing of
Bicycles will take place on July 13, at noon in the church garden. As school
breaks for the summer, we invite the community and families to bring their bicycles to
the garden area of the church for a short blessing which involves both a prayer and
the sprinkling of water on both bike and rider. Last year’s blessing included the
blessing of a scooter! This year, we add prizes for the best decorated (boys and girls)
bicycles. The Blessing of the Bicycles also helps build a sense of community among
the city’s cyclists. This will be our 3rd year for this event. Please join us.
VACATION BIBLE CAMP RETURNS TO ST. NICHOLAS AUGUST 19 – 23, 2013 All young
people, aged 4-12, are invited to Gospel Light’s SonRise National Park VBC- a five
day adventure where we learn the most important survival skill of all: that we can
always depend on Jesus and His promises of true peace, true riches, true power, true

Parables & Pints: The next installment of Parables & Pints will take place on
Tuesday, July 9th at 7:30 p.m. at the Tara Inn, 2365 Kingston Rd (near Midland).
Please join us as we share a pint (or soft drink) and discuss Jesus’ parables.
The Rev’d. Jo-Anne Billinger will be ordained to the Priesthood next Sunday, July
14th at 6:30pm at St. Mary’s Richmond Hill 10300 Yonge St. on the N.W. corner of
Major Mackenzie and Yonge St.
Deb Chapman, our Pastoral Associate, has undergone ankle surgery and will be on
medical leave and recovering at home for approximately 3-4 months. Please uphold
Deb in your prayers during this time. During her recovery period, please contact the
church office for assistance
Are you planning on attending Rev. Alison’s Induction at St. Martin’s on
Sunday September 22nd? St. Martin’s has contacted us, and they have limited
parking, and are arranging for overflow parking (with a bit of a walk to the church).
We are exploring the option of renting a school bus to take us all there and back with
no parking concerns. We need to know how many would be interested in doing this,
and it would need to be a fairly firm commitment. It could cost about $10.00 each. If
you are interested in this, please add your name to the sign-up sheet on the
Manderley bulletin board before the end of July.
Summer is here, and even though our regular church school program has ended; we
will be providing a church school program during the summer months. As with
previous years, instead of splitting into three classes, we will be offering one class for
all ages and we will be using the "Seasons of the Spirit" curriculum. If you are
interested in teaching a class for a week or two, please feel free to sign your name on
the Church School sign-up sheet at the Manderley Door entrance or speak to Angela
McCullock (Church School Coordinator) during Coffee Hour. New teachers are
welcome!

Linens and Lace – This table sells fancy tablecloths, napkins, doilies, and other
linens, as well as china cups and saucers and crystal. If you have any of these
antique items, in good condition, taking up space in drawers, that you don’t want
anymore, we can sell them on this table at the Bazaar.
Jewellery and Accessories another opportunity for you to clear out some lovely old
jewellery and make room for new! Donate it to the Jewellery and Accessories table
and the ladies who work on this table will polish it up, display it beautifully and “turn
your unwanted jewellery into cash. Oh Yeah” (sorry apparently I watch too much T.V.)

Special Thanks
Jesus said, “Love one another as I have loved you.’”
Over the month of June we were very blessed at St. Nicholas to have been able to
hold several special events which have reached out and supported those in need.
 On June 23rd, we hosted The Bach Children’s Chorus Benefit concert in support of
the Churches by the Bluffs Foodbank. Through their musical offering, and the hard
work of Janet Baron who coordinated the event, we were able to raise $1,600 for
the Foodbank.
 The Annual Plant Sale, coordinated and hosted by Marcia Parum, raised just over
$1,100 for Canadian Indigenous Youth Initiatives via the Primates’ World Relief and
Development Fund.
 Also in June, the Alzheimer Society and St. Nicholas formed a partnership to host a
“Men’s Cooking and Support Group” for male caregivers whose partners are
suffering from dementia. This pilot project would not have been possible without
the vision of Pauline Glasgow who initiated and coordinated the partnership, Deb
Chapman who organized and lead the cooking sessions and Eleni Siliveridis of the
Alzherimer Society who helped lead the support group with Pauline.
Thank you to each of you, to all those who helped and to all those who gave their time,
talent and treasure to support these life giving initiatives.
