9. Do you have any other comments to add to your evaluation?
Please provide any additional constructive comments
• A very 'chill' TA to the definition of the word. Engages students in the learning process, and
makes sure the material is understood by everyone, going as far as checking up on every single
student.
• Best T.A. I've ever had at UCSD.
• Best TA I have studied under. Keep up the good work.
I love your extra knowledge facts.
• best, most helpful ta i ever had!
• great TA, helpful in explaining topics in a simple way
• He is very well-prepared to class all the time. He is very willing to help all the students.
• He wasn't my TA, but came in regularly to talk to us and help us if we needed it.
• I felt that sometimes a more detailed explanation on topics or the experiment would have bee
more helpful
• If I ever had a question concerning a lab concept or procedure, I never hesitated to ask Stephan
during class or his office hours. He provided helpful and thorough responses. I attended class
everyday and it was evident that his main priority was making sure his students clearly
understood the lab while being lab safe.
• In this particular lab course, I often made mistakes or took extra time to perform the
experiments. However, Mir was extremely patient and helpful with my extensive questions and
worry. What was especially notable about Mir was his genuine care and willingness to teach. For
example, if I was worried the color of a solution I had to prepare or the consistency of a product
I had to synthesize was incorrect, he would not simply tell me yes or no. Instead, he would
explain and remind me of the concepts behind the experiment and particular reaction as well as
other factors affecting the process, such as the oxygen in the environment or even the humidity
of the day. These short discussions with Mir helped me to appreciate that a lab class is not about
blindly following the lab procedures to form a product or reach the last step so I could leave
class and go home. Rather, performing experiments in a laboratory setting is a experience to
apply knowledge to action and to learn from the grand failures and the small successes, a
scientist's privilege really. Beyond my own experience, I am certain he created a collaborative
and interesting learning environment for my peers. May the TA from whom I have learned the
most continue to successfully drive students to listen, to be aware, and to think.
• Stephan honestly went above and beyond what I expected from a TA for this course. At the start
of every new lab he would give us a break down of what we needed to do and what we needed
to record in order to get the best grade possible. He would constantly walk around the lab
asking if anyone needed help and observing all the students to see if they were doing the
procedure correctly. In my personal experience, I had trouble with a certain lab, and instead of
telling me to look in the manual or try and figure out myself, he met with me right after the lab,
sat down with me, and made sure I understood what I needed to do in order to write my lab
report and do the appropriate calculations. He never seemed annoyed with any question anyone
asked, even if he had just explained it five or ten times. Overall, Stephan was honestly amazing
and I couldn't have asked for a better TA for this course.
• Stephan is an excellent TA that is always encouraging and he really puts in the effort to help his
students succeed academically and he gives everyone confidence that we students can do well
in a challenging class!

• Stephan is awesome, he really cares about the well being of his students and is very affable.
• Stephan is by far my favorite TA I've ever interacted with. Not only was he knowledgeable of the
subject matter, he was also friendly and created an environment where it was okay to ask even
the smallest questions. He always made sure that everyone understood the concepts behind the
experiments and during lab he would always walk around and make himself equally available to
every student. My favorite thing is how passionate he is about teaching and how he took the
time to create review sessions for my lab. Overall I'm really happy that I enrolled in this 8am
class--It was my first one ever and because of this class and the dynamic we all had, I consider
myself very lucky.
• Stephan was a great TA. He always made the effort to explain material when students were
confused and also made sure to take some of his own time to explain things via email and send
us important reminders. Also, he was always prepared for office hours with review questions
which were really helpful! I had a great chemistry lab experience!
• Stephan was always ready to teach our class and was excited to do so. He promoted a fun and
critical thinking environment without making anyone feel too lost.
• Stephan was always willing to help students and was always enthusiastic about it. It was
refreshing to go into lab everyday and have someone who you could trust to be consistent in
every aspect. It was easy to talk to him when I was struggling because he was so approachable.
I highly recommend Stephan as a TA and know he will be a professor in the future.
• Stephan was an amazing TA! It is really rare to meet someone who is not only incredibly
knowledgeable about chemistry, but also so many other subjects like biology, economics and
math. He is always full of fun facts which make the class enjoyable. Stephan connected
extremely well with the class and was always there to help with experiments. Would definitely
recommend.
• This was not my TA, but he would go around our lab and help us understand the material. Every
time he does, it was always helpful. He is very enthusiastic about the subject and he makes the
complicated material easy to understand.
• Very great teacher assistant. Friendly, approachable, and detailed. He makes sure to drill the
concepts that one may struggle with and ensures that students are understanding the
theoretical concepts behind the experiments. In addition, he always puts extra time to help the
students which is very appreciated. The chemistry knowledge that he knows is superb and he is
very helpful. I definitely recommend this TA to others.
• Very helpful, friendly, very prompt and thorough with emails
• Very well organized and clear about the material and what is expected for this class. Helped
explain many topics in a meaningful way and was always encouraging and friendly
• Was not my personal TA but often stopped by during my lab and was very enthusiastic, funny
and helpful with the lab procedures/concepts. It was nice meeting you Stephan! :)
