2. PLATES FOR THE BALL INDUSTRY
H.K. Founders Limited supply cast iron plates with controlled quality of material, hardness,
and sound throughout the working life.
H.K. Founders produce flashing, grinding and lapping plates for use in ball production
throughout the world. Through close liaison with you the customer, our plates are tailored
to suit your requirements, whether it requires specific material, hardness or design
features.
Free from defects and porosity with through thickness consistent material produced by
spectrographic analysis prior to pouring, controlled cooling and subsequently ultrasonic
analysis, guarantees our product quality, which in turn reflects directly on the quality of
yours.
Flashing Plates
450 to 525 HB
H.K. Founders manufacture specialist cast iron
Flashing plates in various chemistries to suit
material and performance requirements.
Grinding Plates
450 to 525 HB
H.K. Founders manufacture specialist cast
iron Flashing plates in various chemistries
to suit material and performance
requirements.
It is what we try not to give you that set our plates apart. Additional scrap, rework, machine
downtime, additional plate changes, chasing up quality problems, the extra costs that aren’t
seen in our competitors’ pricing that enables us to take away the strain, and let you to get
on with what you are doing, making and selling your precision product.
With ever increasing demands for quality, coupled with reducing lead times for product
supply, it is the costs you don’t see with our products which help reduce costs and overall
production times for you. Elimination of rework, machine downtime, batch variability all
contributes significantly to overall cost of ownership.
3. Lapping Plates
120 to 250 HB
180 to 240 HB Lap 1 (Pre Lap)
120 to 180 HB Lap 2 (Finish Lap)
Available in various grades of Grey Iron, and
hardness to suit material and surface finish /
material removal requirements.
Produced via one of two methods according
to end user process requirements.
Wear Bars
Either as soft cast iron or plastic. A strip of
material across the inlet face of the gap
reduces ball damage.
Inlet machining time and re-grooving of inlet is
also reduced, especially if performed by
hand. The original gap opening remains with
part of the plate cut back to accommodate this
feature.
Geis Plates / EDM Gap
Some customers specify Geis type or other plates
which require extremely sharp corners on gap
plates.
The gaps can be of the “pocket type” (see adjacent
photo), or open gap. These are generally used with
small diameter balls. H.K. Founders can supply such
plates with wire eroded (EDM) corners.

Quality Control
H.K. Founders' plates undergo rigorous testing throughout their manufacture.
• Each melt is analysed via spectroscopy in order to ensure it conforms to our own
specific formulation dependant upon the application required.
• Each plate is uniquely identified to provide full traceability through the
manufacturing process to the specific melt from which it was produced.
• Each plate is ultrasonically tested to ensure the absence of defects such as
inclusions and porosity.
• A Certificate of Conformity is produced and packed with each shipment.
• All plates are covered by a comprehensive warranty.
Development
We continually work to enable you the customer to produce high quality product,
quickly. Specific plate chemistries have been formulated to customer requirements for
high cut rate, improved surface finish, specific ball materials or extended plate life.
