AMAZON
                 The Rainforest River

 The tropical region lies very close to the equator
between 10 degree north and 10 degree south.
 The rainforest river flows from mountains to the
west and reaches the Atlantic to the east.
 The river Basin drains portions of Brazil, parts
of Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador, Columbia and a small
    part of Venezuela.
Climate of the Amazon Basin
• The Amazon basin stretches directly on
the equator & is characterized by hot &
  wet climate throughout the year.
• The day & nights are almost equally hot &
  humid. The skin feels sticky.
• The day temperatures are high with
humidity. At night the temperature goes
down but the humidity remains the same.
People at the Rainforests

 People grow most of their food in small
areas after clearing some trees in the
   forest.
 Aircraft & helicopters are also used for
   reaching various places.
 The staple food of the rainforest is
Manioc, also known as Cassava, that
grows under the ground like potato.
The Ganga - Brahmaputra
Basin
 The basin lies in the sub tropical region
that is situated between 10 degree north
  & 30 degree north latitudes.
 The plains of the Ganga & Brahmaputra,
the mountains & foothills of the
Himalayas & Sundarbans delta are the
  main features of this basin.
 The summers are hot & winters are cool.
Fascinating Facts

 Bromeliads are special plants that
store water in their leaves. Animals
like frogs use these pockets of water
    for laying their eggs.
 Terraces are built on steep slopes to
create flat surfaces on which crops
are grown. The slope is removed so
that the water does not run off
    rapidly.
