The document proposes a video game called Sidhean targeted at 16-19 year old boys and girls. The game will have a tomb raider style with adventure, suspense, and danger. The player will control a character that can walk, run, jump and shoot through a detailed background with obstacles and enemies. Research into 8-bit games will provide inspiration for creating the background and characters using simple pixels. The proposal aims to evaluate the game throughout development and after each week to identify strengths and areas for improvement.

Working Title:
Sidhean
Audience:
My game is mainly going to be directed at an audience made up of boys and girls aged 16-19. I
have chosen to direct it at both genders as I believe that girls like video games just as much as
boys but are often overlooked by the creators of video games (It is normally a male character that
they would be playing, often no female representation). In my game, I’m hoping to personalise
your character to be either male or female, this will hopefully attract boys and girls to want to play
my game. Regarding the age, I believe that 16-19 year olds are the ages who are most likely to
spend a large amount of their time playing video games similar to this.
For this game, I don’t think social status matters, I think the audience is more affected by the
psychographic. I think this because there is always a big group of people who are interested in this
genre of video game regardless of where they stand in social status. What’s more likely to decide if
they like the video game is their psychographic as this is where they stand with morals, values,
attitudes and interests. For someone to like my game they must be into the idea of fighting,
shooting, danger, excitement and suspense.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Throughout the year I have used Photoshop and other editing software in my different projects,
this has helped me to feel more confident in using them. Having this knowledge and confidence in
the software will hopefully help me when creating this video game.
My advergame didn’t really work at all, I found it extremely hard to create, to look realistic and for it
to work properly. However, I can use this to my advantage by looking at my evaluation of the
game, studying what went well and why, what went wrong and why. By studying what went wrong
and what went well last time, I can apply that to this game and create a more confident, working
game.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
For my video game, my idea is to create a tomb raider style game. This means lots of adventure,
suspense and danger. I’m hoping to create my game to have a detailed background that can loop
around again and again, with different obstacles and enemies appearing. Having a detailed
background will help the players to become more immersed into my game as it appears to be
more realistic. The colours featured will be realistic, I’ve chosen this as I believe it will make my
game more interactive and feel more realistic and more immersive.
When creating my game, I’m thinking I will look at creating one long background, with obstacles
and ‘enemies’ built into it, who would then come alive and move when the player comes across
them.
For the player, I will create a character that can do the basic movements (walk, run, jump, shoot).
Having these movements drawn out and ready to be placed into the game will help make the
game making process easier and hopefully less stressful.
To help me create my background and characters I will be researching into 8Bit video games
(good example being Jurassic park). These are good to look at for inspiration because they show
you what you can create using simple pixels and a 2D format. Having these images there to help
me come up with ideas and sort of demonstrate how to create it, is going to be very helpful.

Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
To evaluate my work, I want to look at evaluating throughout the two-week process as well as the
final evaluation. I think having this will help my final evaluation to be stronger as I can reference to
what I wanted to do halfway throughout he process, what is still had to do, did I think I was going to
be able to do it. In the final evaluation, I can then talk about what I managed to complete, what I
didn’t and why etc.
Realistically I know I won’t be able to conduct evaluation throughout the whole process, with it still
managing to be interesting and containing new information. Due to this I’m going to aim to do a
self-evaluation after the first week of production and then complete the final evaluation after the
second week of production. Doing my evaluation like this, I believe will give me a strong
evaluation.
Evaluating your work is a valuable skill to have in this area of work, as you are able to comfortably
look at what you’ve created and see what went well and what didn’t go so well. Being able to
confidently evaluate your work will enable you to create stronger work the next time.
