ICT includes Online learning, Learning through
the use of EDUSAT and Web based Learning.
ICT act as a tool in help implementing good
governance throughout the country.
Allows a new ways of doing business through e-
government and e-governance applications. e-
government provides efficient services to the
citizens and businesses through the use of ICT.
Benefits of ICT in Governance: increases
accountability, increases transparency, higher
availability of public domain information, reduces
corruption and increases efficiency due to
connectivity.

The Digital India programme was
launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi
on July 1st 2015. Digital India is a
program to transform India to a digitally
empowered society and prepare India for
a knowledge future.

7. Digital Initiatives in Higher Education
SWAYAM(Study Webs of Active Learning for
Young Aspiring Minds)
helps to provide best quality education
that can be accessed by anyone, anytime
and anywhere using IT system. SWAYAM,
the free online education was developed by
MHRD, Govt. Of India and AICTE with the
help of Microsoft. SWAYAM MOOCs platform
is World’s Largest Online Free E-Learning
Platform Portal designed to achieve the three
cardinal principles of Education Policy viz.,
Access, Equity and Quality by covering
School/Vocational, Under-Graduate, Post
Graduate, Engineering and Other Professional
Courses.
8. SWAYAM PRABHA is a group of 32 DTH
channels devoted to telecasting of high-
quality educational programmes on 24X7
basis using the GSAT-15 satellite. Every
day, there will be new content for at least
(4) hours which would be repeated 5
more times in a day, allowing the students
to choose the time of their convenience.
The channels are uplinked from BISAG,
Gandhinagar. The contents are provided
by NPTEL, IITs, UGC, CEC, IGNOU, NCERT
and NIOS. The INFLIBNET Centre
maintains the web portal.
9. e-Yantra: encouraging creation of robotics
platforms, create robotic applications for
usage across variety of applications such as:
agriculture, manufacturing, defense, city
maintenance and services industries. All the
projects and codes are available on the e-
yantra website. The objective is to provide
hands-on learning to engineering students
who have limited access to labs and mentors.
The goal is to create the next generation of
(Embedded systems) engineers in India with
a practical outlook to take on challenging
problems and provide solutions
10. e-Vidwan: VIDWAN is the premier
database of profiles of scientists /
researchers and other faculty members
working at leading academic institutions
and other R & D organisation involved in
teaching and research in India.

selected graduate and pg courses, taught
by IIT Bombay (distinguished faculty
members). Amrita University for providing
virtual classrooms for faculty across the
country.
11. National Academic Depository: facilitate to
academic institutions to digitally securely and

and anywhere using internet. National Academic
Depository (NAD) is a 24X7 online store house of

degrees, mark-sheets etc. duly digitised and

eligibility assessment bodies. On October 27,
2016, the Union Cabinet under the Chairmanship
of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has
accorded its approval for establishment and
Operationalization of a National Academic
Depository (NAD) the services of which are
offered by CDSL Ventures Limited (CVL).
