Introduction and meaning:
 Integrative learning is the process of making connections among
concepts and experiences so that information and skills can be applied to
novel and complex issues or challenges.
 Integrated learning refers to instructional strategies that employ web-
based technologies in online or blended course.
 To create rich and active learner-focused environments. A blended course
is one that combines online and face-to-face instruction.
 Integration focuses on making connections for students, allowing them to
engage in relevant, meaningful activities that can be connected to real life.
 Think about the idea of integration as either a multidisciplinary approach
or an interdisciplinary approach.

 integrated learning usually refers to a pedagogical design
that integrates a rich set of teaching, learning and technological
components. In particular:
Integration of different pedagogical strategies, including
individual, group and class work
Integration of direct teaching, presential learning activities
and distance work
Use of different technologies
Integration of theoretical and practical (e.g workplace)
knowledge.
WHY USE Integrated learning?
 Integrated learning makes addressing curriculum
manageable by offering a means of addressing many subject
expectations in a meaningful way.
 It contributes to a deeper understanding of topics and issues,
and the interrelationships inherent in complex, real-world
systems.
 It provides opportunities to differentiate instruction.
 The inclusion of multiple disciplines provides students with
the opportunity to engage their particular interests or abilities.
 Integrated learning enables more authentic assessment.
Design of integrative learning
How will integrated teaching and learning impact on
students?
 It encourages students to see the interconnectedness and
interrelationships between the curriculum areas.
 It is totally based in skill development around a particular
theme that is relevant to them in the class.
 It provides opportunities to learn more about the content.
 Students can develop deeper understanding of content
through a range of purposeful activities.
 Students remain active learners who research, interpret,
communicate and process learning to both others and themselves.
 Inquiry approaches allow them to construct meaning ful
learning,
 They are grouped according to learning needs or cooperative
learning.
