Chapter-6 Self-development and Assessment:
Self-development and Assessment:
Change, Grow, Persist, Prioritize, Read, Learn, Listen, Record, Remember, Asses, Think, Communicate,
Relate, Dream
1. Write short note on ‘change’?
Change is inevitable in life. It is a part of our life. Changes may either be positive or negative.
When we are tired of doing something we welcome a new change. When we are upset we
wait for a change of phase, we await happiness. But sometimes, when we are happy we fear
the change which may cause disappointments. It’s the way of life: whether we like it or not a
change is bound to happen. Changes keep away boredom from life. It makes this journey
interesting and adventurous.
One person can be a change catalyst, a 'transformer' in any situation, any organization. Such
an individual is yeast that can leaven an entire loaf. It requires vision, initiative, patience,
respect, persistence, courage, and faith to be a transforming leader.
Change is an important element in prospering our life because the world is constantly
changing with time & so are people around us. And for us to thrive in life we have to embrace
change. It’s not always a good thing to change but its okay to let go and change your feelings
if it is hindering your growth and outlook towards life. You can't blame the circumstances
when things go wrong. We have to accept change rather than thinking and complaining about
it.
2. Write short note on ‘Grow’
As men, we have a longing to become the best versions of our self. We realize that to live
whatever a successful life means to us, we have to be confident in the actions we’re taking.
One of the best ways to become the best versions of our self is to continue to grow as a person
We can live a better life by harnessing the energies present within us. We all can do what we want to
do, work for what we are passionate about, and even change our realities if we decide.
Here we grow by changing our elf, behaviour, how to be more positive and stay focused on goals, how
to be calm in everyday life, build strong relationships, and move forward on our path. Follow the space
to learn how to live better with science-backed ideas and inspirational personal life stories.
.

3 Write short note on ‘Persist’
We are complex creatures. Hope and anguish can coexist and still create something truly
amazing. Persistence is the ability to maintain action regardless of your feelings. You press on
even when you feel like quitting, until you achieve that important goal. I surprise myself every
day.
People give up too soon because they have wrong expectations of themselves and the
outcome. They expect the way to be easy, and they are surprised when they find the reality
to be the opposite. Their enthusiasm quickly melts and they lose heart.
So start your journey with the right expectation. And don’t underestimate the amount of time
required either.
Remember, there is no such thing as cheap success. Expect a hard way, not an easy one, and
you will be mentally prepared when you encounter the reality.
The size of your commitment should be proportional to the size of your desire.
You will be blown away by what you can achieve if you don’t lose hope in yourself. Einstein
persisted and stayed with problems longer to make sure he found exactly what he was looking
for. He once said “It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.”
Persistence, has a lot to do with your success in life and business. Persistence is omnipotent.
Calvin Coolidge once said “The slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the
problems of the human race”. Talent and genius cannot take the place of persistence.
“The value of persistence comes from a vision of the future
that’s so compelling you would give almost anything to make
it real.”
4 Write a short note on ‘Prioritize’
Individuals and businesses must prioritize their focus and pay attention to every task in their
to do list to be successful. Every growing business has constraints in terms of resources and
time. It is highly important for a person to spend his or her time on the most important areas
that can drive success.
BE,Sem-3, ETC
3
It is common that we panic when we tackle our tasks by priority, but it feels like everything is
important. It is difficult to skilfully juggle multiple priorities and competing responsibilities.
There are times when one has to manage workload at the office as well as the ever-growing
list of to-dos at home. Managing everything is not impossible. Below are some steps to be
taken to manage tasks better and touch upon every important aspect:
Answer the Question: Is Everything Really Important?
Even if everything on the plate is supposed to be equally important, we still need a way to
break down which ones we spend your time on, and how we slice up our time...
Work backwards
One has to consider the due dates, take into account how much effort is needed to put into
each one and how much input is needed from others and work backwards to find out what
you should be working on right now.
Ask around:
If you’re prioritizing tasks that involve other people, like your family, friends, and co-workers,
talk to them. You are working with them on and if they can lend a hand.
5 Write a short note on ‘Read and learn’
Many studies show that toddlers and pre-schoolers who are read to every day have a larger
vocabulary than those who aren’t read to at all. It turns out that reading there are many
advantages and benefits of reading.
Not only does reading enhance a child’s vocabulary, and to help they understand how to read
and write, but reading aloud to children also helps them to understand different topics about
the world and everyday life.
Reading is a vital skill in finding a good job. Many well-paying jobs require reading as a part of
job performance. There are reports and memos which must be read and responded to. Poor
reading skills increases the amount of time it takes to absorb and react in the workplace. A
person is limited in what they can accomplish without good reading and comprehension skills.
6 Write a short note on ‘Listen and communicate’
Many of us think that communication is talking - and talk us do. We interrupt, advise,
reassure, judge, analyse, criticize, argue, moralize, threaten, divert, diagnose, etc., etc. But,
good communication requires good listening as well as talking. In fact, since we have two ears
and only one mouth, listening just might be the more important skill. However, we receive
BE,Sem-3, ETC
4
almost no training in good listening and usually do not realize that really "hearing" someone
is not a passive activity.
To be a good listener, we must, first, pay attention. The remainder of this article will focus on
"attending" skills. The next article will discuss how to listen "actively" rather than passively.
A good listener uses questions sparingly because questions tend to focus the conversation on
the questioner’s perspective and concerns and can derail the focus of the speaker. Work on
asking fewer questions, and when you do, ask "open-ended" questions. Compare "Did you
call the police?" to "What did you do?" Or, "Do you feel anxious about the meeting
tomorrow?" to "How do you feel about the meeting tomorrow?" An open-ended question is
like an essay question which allows the speaker, rather than the questioner, to lead the
conversation and clarify his or her own concerns. A closed question is like a true/false
question and often suggests or narrows the agenda.
Finally, knowing when to be silent can be a powerful communication tool. Silence allows the
speaker to become aware of his or her own feelings, to explore more deeply and to proceed
at his or her own pace. Because many listeners become self-conscious with silence, they feel
the need to "break" it by talking or asking questions. Unfortunately, this usually disrupts and
derails the speaker. How can silence be handled? Pay attention to the body posture of the
speaker and "listen" to what it says to you. Try to imagine what the speaker might be feeling,
consider various ways that you might respond, and then choose the most helpful response.
7 Explain importance of record
A systematic records adds value to the daily functions of the staff. The benefits are:
Organizing information for retrieval when needed.
Protecting records that are essential to mission-critical business operations.
Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory recordkeeping requirements, thereby avoiding
costly fines or other penalties.
Reducing risks in litigations, government investigations, and the legal discovery process.
Reducing labour requirements for the creation, organization, retrieval and dissemination of
recorded information.
Minimizing storage requirements (space, equipment, and supplies) for a given quantity of
records. Destroy or delete records according to the University's records retention schedules.
Reducing the time and effort required to reconstruct vital information in the event of disaster,
theft, and other losses
BE,Sem-3, ETC

8 Explain importance of assessment and think in life
Self-assessment is the process of looking at oneself in order to assess aspects that are
important to one's identity. It is one of the motives that drive self-evaluation, along with self-
verification and self-enhancement. Suicides (1993) suggests that the self-assessment motive
will prompt people to seek information to confirm their uncertain self-concept rather than
their certain self-concept and at the same time people use self-assessment to enhance their
certainty of their own self-knowledge. However, the self-assessment motive could be seen as
quite different from the other two self-evaluation motives. Unlike the other two motives
through self-assessment people are interested in the accuracy of their current self-view,
rather than improving their self-view. This makes self-assessment the only self-evaluative
motive that may cause a person's self-esteem to be damaged.
Thinking is an important mental process. It helps us to define and organise experiences, plan,
learn, reflect and create. But sometimes our thinking may for a variety of reasons become
unhelpful and this has a negative impact on our wellbeing.
Some negative types of thinking may include:
When our thinking dwells in the past to a level that it influences our ability to function in the
present;
When our thinking is constructed of language that is absolute in character and leaves little
room for imagining a different future;
When our thinking prevents us from recognising our own strengths or the strengths of others.
9 Write short note on ‘relate’
What does it mean; being able to 'relate to others'? To relate to someone is to make a
connection, to understand them or their story. Sometimes this is natural. Sometimes it
requires work.
The Importance of Relating Well to Others are Getting/ Keeping a Job, Steps to help you relate
to others, Building, friendships/ Relationships., Consider Emotions, Understand, but don't
judge , Be able to work in a team.
BE,Sem-3, ETC
6
10 Write short note on ‘Dream’
Dreams are necessary. Without dreams, there will be no ambition to chase. There will be no
goal to reach. We will all be nothing without dreams. Not having dreams is like chasing a
traceless murder. It is like following an invisible shadow. It is a dreadful goose chase. We must
know what we want to do and follow that ambition. We can’t achieve anything in life without
goals, and for these goals, we need to dream.
Most people have dreams. Big ones or small ones. Even the most successful people had
dreams and that is what has made them what they are today. Dreaming is essential for a
human being. Without dreams, you will lose interest in life and finally hate to live life. You will
be bored and tired of the same monotonous routines of your daily life and will not even find
interest in the most exciting things. Only with dreams, will you find a purpose to live your life.
You will start working hard towards the dream and will never lose interest in life. You will
never tire and always be motivated. This is the best way to become successful.

Chapter 6 SELF DEVELOPMENT AND ASSESSMENT ETC

  • 1. BE,Sem-3, ETC 1 Chapter-6 Self-development and Assessment: Self-development and Assessment: Change, Grow, Persist, Prioritize, Read, Learn, Listen, Record, Remember, Asses, Think, Communicate, Relate, Dream 1. Write short note on ‘change’? Change is inevitable in life. It is a part of our life. Changes may either be positive or negative. When we are tired of doing something we welcome a new change. When we are upset we wait for a change of phase, we await happiness. But sometimes, when we are happy we fear the change which may cause disappointments. It’s the way of life: whether we like it or not a change is bound to happen. Changes keep away boredom from life. It makes this journey interesting and adventurous. One person can be a change catalyst, a 'transformer' in any situation, any organization. Such an individual is yeast that can leaven an entire loaf. It requires vision, initiative, patience, respect, persistence, courage, and faith to be a transforming leader. Change is an important element in prospering our life because the world is constantly changing with time & so are people around us. And for us to thrive in life we have to embrace change. It’s not always a good thing to change but its okay to let go and change your feelings if it is hindering your growth and outlook towards life. You can't blame the circumstances when things go wrong. We have to accept change rather than thinking and complaining about it. 2. Write short note on ‘Grow’ As men, we have a longing to become the best versions of our self. We realize that to live whatever a successful life means to us, we have to be confident in the actions we’re taking. One of the best ways to become the best versions of our self is to continue to grow as a person We can live a better life by harnessing the energies present within us. We all can do what we want to do, work for what we are passionate about, and even change our realities if we decide. Here we grow by changing our elf, behaviour, how to be more positive and stay focused on goals, how to be calm in everyday life, build strong relationships, and move forward on our path. Follow the space to learn how to live better with science-backed ideas and inspirational personal life stories. .
  • 2. BE,Sem-3, ETC 2 3 Write short note on ‘Persist’ We are complex creatures. Hope and anguish can coexist and still create something truly amazing. Persistence is the ability to maintain action regardless of your feelings. You press on even when you feel like quitting, until you achieve that important goal. I surprise myself every day. People give up too soon because they have wrong expectations of themselves and the outcome. They expect the way to be easy, and they are surprised when they find the reality to be the opposite. Their enthusiasm quickly melts and they lose heart. So start your journey with the right expectation. And don’t underestimate the amount of time required either. Remember, there is no such thing as cheap success. Expect a hard way, not an easy one, and you will be mentally prepared when you encounter the reality. The size of your commitment should be proportional to the size of your desire. You will be blown away by what you can achieve if you don’t lose hope in yourself. Einstein persisted and stayed with problems longer to make sure he found exactly what he was looking for. He once said “It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s just that I stay with problems longer.” Persistence, has a lot to do with your success in life and business. Persistence is omnipotent. Calvin Coolidge once said “The slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race”. Talent and genius cannot take the place of persistence. “The value of persistence comes from a vision of the future that’s so compelling you would give almost anything to make it real.” 4 Write a short note on ‘Prioritize’ Individuals and businesses must prioritize their focus and pay attention to every task in their to do list to be successful. Every growing business has constraints in terms of resources and time. It is highly important for a person to spend his or her time on the most important areas that can drive success.
  • 3. BE,Sem-3, ETC 3 It is common that we panic when we tackle our tasks by priority, but it feels like everything is important. It is difficult to skilfully juggle multiple priorities and competing responsibilities. There are times when one has to manage workload at the office as well as the ever-growing list of to-dos at home. Managing everything is not impossible. Below are some steps to be taken to manage tasks better and touch upon every important aspect: Answer the Question: Is Everything Really Important? Even if everything on the plate is supposed to be equally important, we still need a way to break down which ones we spend your time on, and how we slice up our time... Work backwards One has to consider the due dates, take into account how much effort is needed to put into each one and how much input is needed from others and work backwards to find out what you should be working on right now. Ask around: If you’re prioritizing tasks that involve other people, like your family, friends, and co-workers, talk to them. You are working with them on and if they can lend a hand. 5 Write a short note on ‘Read and learn’ Many studies show that toddlers and pre-schoolers who are read to every day have a larger vocabulary than those who aren’t read to at all. It turns out that reading there are many advantages and benefits of reading. Not only does reading enhance a child’s vocabulary, and to help they understand how to read and write, but reading aloud to children also helps them to understand different topics about the world and everyday life. Reading is a vital skill in finding a good job. Many well-paying jobs require reading as a part of job performance. There are reports and memos which must be read and responded to. Poor reading skills increases the amount of time it takes to absorb and react in the workplace. A person is limited in what they can accomplish without good reading and comprehension skills. 6 Write a short note on ‘Listen and communicate’ Many of us think that communication is talking - and talk us do. We interrupt, advise, reassure, judge, analyse, criticize, argue, moralize, threaten, divert, diagnose, etc., etc. But, good communication requires good listening as well as talking. In fact, since we have two ears and only one mouth, listening just might be the more important skill. However, we receive
  • 4. BE,Sem-3, ETC 4 almost no training in good listening and usually do not realize that really "hearing" someone is not a passive activity. To be a good listener, we must, first, pay attention. The remainder of this article will focus on "attending" skills. The next article will discuss how to listen "actively" rather than passively. A good listener uses questions sparingly because questions tend to focus the conversation on the questioner’s perspective and concerns and can derail the focus of the speaker. Work on asking fewer questions, and when you do, ask "open-ended" questions. Compare "Did you call the police?" to "What did you do?" Or, "Do you feel anxious about the meeting tomorrow?" to "How do you feel about the meeting tomorrow?" An open-ended question is like an essay question which allows the speaker, rather than the questioner, to lead the conversation and clarify his or her own concerns. A closed question is like a true/false question and often suggests or narrows the agenda. Finally, knowing when to be silent can be a powerful communication tool. Silence allows the speaker to become aware of his or her own feelings, to explore more deeply and to proceed at his or her own pace. Because many listeners become self-conscious with silence, they feel the need to "break" it by talking or asking questions. Unfortunately, this usually disrupts and derails the speaker. How can silence be handled? Pay attention to the body posture of the speaker and "listen" to what it says to you. Try to imagine what the speaker might be feeling, consider various ways that you might respond, and then choose the most helpful response. 7 Explain importance of record A systematic records adds value to the daily functions of the staff. The benefits are: Organizing information for retrieval when needed. Protecting records that are essential to mission-critical business operations. Ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory recordkeeping requirements, thereby avoiding costly fines or other penalties. Reducing risks in litigations, government investigations, and the legal discovery process. Reducing labour requirements for the creation, organization, retrieval and dissemination of recorded information. Minimizing storage requirements (space, equipment, and supplies) for a given quantity of records. Destroy or delete records according to the University's records retention schedules. Reducing the time and effort required to reconstruct vital information in the event of disaster, theft, and other losses
  • 5. BE,Sem-3, ETC 5 8 Explain importance of assessment and think in life Self-assessment is the process of looking at oneself in order to assess aspects that are important to one's identity. It is one of the motives that drive self-evaluation, along with self- verification and self-enhancement. Suicides (1993) suggests that the self-assessment motive will prompt people to seek information to confirm their uncertain self-concept rather than their certain self-concept and at the same time people use self-assessment to enhance their certainty of their own self-knowledge. However, the self-assessment motive could be seen as quite different from the other two self-evaluation motives. Unlike the other two motives through self-assessment people are interested in the accuracy of their current self-view, rather than improving their self-view. This makes self-assessment the only self-evaluative motive that may cause a person's self-esteem to be damaged. Thinking is an important mental process. It helps us to define and organise experiences, plan, learn, reflect and create. But sometimes our thinking may for a variety of reasons become unhelpful and this has a negative impact on our wellbeing. Some negative types of thinking may include: When our thinking dwells in the past to a level that it influences our ability to function in the present; When our thinking is constructed of language that is absolute in character and leaves little room for imagining a different future; When our thinking prevents us from recognising our own strengths or the strengths of others. 9 Write short note on ‘relate’ What does it mean; being able to 'relate to others'? To relate to someone is to make a connection, to understand them or their story. Sometimes this is natural. Sometimes it requires work. The Importance of Relating Well to Others are Getting/ Keeping a Job, Steps to help you relate to others, Building, friendships/ Relationships., Consider Emotions, Understand, but don't judge , Be able to work in a team.
  • 6. BE,Sem-3, ETC 6 10 Write short note on ‘Dream’ Dreams are necessary. Without dreams, there will be no ambition to chase. There will be no goal to reach. We will all be nothing without dreams. Not having dreams is like chasing a traceless murder. It is like following an invisible shadow. It is a dreadful goose chase. We must know what we want to do and follow that ambition. We can’t achieve anything in life without goals, and for these goals, we need to dream. Most people have dreams. Big ones or small ones. Even the most successful people had dreams and that is what has made them what they are today. Dreaming is essential for a human being. Without dreams, you will lose interest in life and finally hate to live life. You will be bored and tired of the same monotonous routines of your daily life and will not even find interest in the most exciting things. Only with dreams, will you find a purpose to live your life. You will start working hard towards the dream and will never lose interest in life. You will never tire and always be motivated. This is the best way to become successful.
