3. Old method of digitisation

Blackboard VLE Content Store eReserves
- Very time consuming process
- No record of decisions / © details
- Whole process re-done every. single. year
- One eReserves folder per module: multiple
copies of files not shared between modules
● - No reporting - manual CLA returns
● + Seamless authentication within Blackboard

4. digitisation.library.lincoln.ac.uk
● TA Reading Lists launched July 2012
● 18 months on: 42% of modules have lists
● Integrated with Blackboard VLE & academic
programmes management system (APMS)
● Justification: + Student experience,
- Academic Subject Librarian effort
● TADC launched July 2013

5. Conversion
● Didn’t use Talis’s automatic conversion from
spreadsheet / filestore (process not ready)
● Exported Blackboard eReserves to disk and
worked through priority modules (2 batches)
● - Time-consuming, but not really
● + Learnt a lot about TADC in the process
● + “Clean sheet”: fix mistakes, discarded lots
● + More new reading lists created

6. Authentication
● New auth system OpenAthens LA launched
the same month as TADC - don’t do this!
● - No devolved constraints: self-certification
● - Worried about profile creation stage
● - No seamless sign-on between Blackboard
and OALA/TADC: user has to log in twice

7. After 6 months...

8. What next
● Review & improve TADC+TARL processes
● Currently digitisation requests still mediated
by Academic Subject Librarians - change?
● TARL hierarchy - better integration with
programmes management system
● Authentication - devolved constraints
