4. ASTRACAST HISTORY
Astracast was founded in 1984 as the world's first specialist manufacturer of coloured Granite sinks.
It was part of the Spring Ram Corporation's group of companies specialising in home improvement products
based in Leeds, Yorkshire. In June 1999, Spring Ram Corporation was purchased by US Industries (USI),
an independent public - based company in New Jersey, USA, with Astracast a key part of its
UK operation, Jacuzzi UK.

Over the years Astracast has focused on innovation and design to produce
market leading products from the worlds first coloured Granite sink
in 1984 to the addition of our ROK®
material in 1997, a composite material with 85% real quartz to give unrivalled
resistance and performance. 2010 saw another world's first - a textured, natural slate finish ROK-TEX, as featured on
our Contour sink range.
During the 1990's Astracast grew to become the UK's largest sink manufacturer by market share, and one of the
largest sink manufacturers in the world producing in excess of one million kitchen sinks, kitchen taps and accessories
per year. Stainless Steel and Ceramic sinks were added to the product portfolio in 1991, supported with the purchase
of SSP Malta in 1994, a manufacturing plant specialising in the production of stainless steel sinks.
In 2007 Jacuzzi was purchased by American private equity firm Apollo Global Management which lead to the 2008
merger of Astracast with the Jacuzzi UK bathroom business and the move to a new Head Office and composite sink /
bath manufacturing plant in Bradford, West Yorkshire.
Astracast, along with the bathroom business now offered a multi-channel product
selling into over 40 countries worldwide.
In December 2012, Astracast sink and private label bath business was
acquired by private investment company HLD Capital forming Astracast
Ltd. In March, 2013 HLD acquired Reva Industries Limited. This latest
addition to the group sees Astracast Ltd become market leaders
in the UK in both kitchen sinks and acrylic bath manufacturing.

As a manufacturer we understand it is our responsibility to ensure that the environmental impact of each product
we make is as low as possible, whether it is made from natural resources, like the wood in our chopping boards,
or synthetic ingredients, such as the resin in our granite sinks. In 2012 we switched all our packaging to sustainable
cardboard from certified FSC approved sources.

the tap being fitted, a tap may require additional support.
This product is designed to reduce the amount of sway of the tap
when it is being used and to minimise any potential long term
damage to sinks, taps or pipework. This product is particularly
applicable into the following conditions:
• The tap is fitted to a budget inset stainless steel sink
• The sink is a single bowl model, or has a large drainer section
•Taps using flexible connectors rather then rigid copper tail pipes
• Can be retrofitted without disconnecting the water supply.

80. Water Pressure Explained
When choosing a tap, you need to consider the water pressure available in your home. Cold water will be at mains pressure so
is not usually a problem, the pressure at which your hot water comes out of the tap is vital and you must note those designs
which require a high pressure to perform well.
HP - High Pressure - this tap is suitable for use on high pressure water feed
(combi boiler/ pressurised water system)
LP - Low Pressure - this tap is suitable for use on low or high pressure water feed (gravity fed/ unpressurised water system)
If you have a pressurised water heater system then you will have a minimum amount of pressure (normally 1.8 bar),
which is more than adequate to provide good flow through most taps.
If you have an un-pressurised system it is recommended that you check your water pressure with a qualified plumber
before you purchase an Astracast tap. Pumps to boost water pressure can be purchased from all good DIY and plumbing
retailers, should your tap of choice require a greater pressure than your system offers.
