People spend much more time using mobile apps than browsing the mobile web. Americans now spend over two hours per day using apps on their smartphones, with that time accounting for 12% of total media consumption. The number of mobile app downloads has also grown enormously, increasing from 81 billion in 2012 to an estimated 300 billion by 2016, demonstrating how central apps have become to mobile experiences.
