• Low/No Code Data Platform.
• Allows Citizen Developers to build applications and
solutions with ease.
A little bit about Tim
• I am 24 years old. (Millennial)
• I have been working in the NPO/NGO sector for the last
decade. (Yes I was 14 years old when I joined my first NPO)
• I am passionate about making NPO’s more efficient, and
providing them the tools to make a higher impact.
• I graduated from Southern Oregon University with my
bachelors degree in Business and Information Systems.
• I started my own Non Profit Consulting Business in 2016
• I started my role as the Non Profit Community Leader at
Kintone, on January of 2018 and have been able to serve
and support over 40 individual non profits.
• And I got to where I am at because for the first 8 years, I
volunteered my time.
The Reason for this Presentation
What we will
be covering
• Social Media Plans and Tips
• Tips to work with time constrained
volunteers
• The System Features
We live in a technologically saturated world.
In 2019, there are
4.68 Billion people
using smartphones
We live in a technologically saturated world.
Of that number,
2.9 Billion of them
are on Social Media
That’s 62%!
There are multiple ways of communicating with Volunteers.
Texting
Phone Calls
E-Mails
In Person
Social Media
Social Media
Social Media is a tool that NPO’s can use to engage a large audience of volunteers, donors, constituents, and
collaborators with ease. They can be daunting, but once you have started and have the ball rolling it is very
powerful.
Social Media
Facebook Twitter
• Allows you the ability to create a page.
• Similar to a website this page allows
volunteers to learn about your organization,
and get involved.
• You can start volunteer groups, and get
information out quickly with ease and low
cost.
• For $ you can boost your ads, and
messaging.
• Allowing you a 140 character limit,
you can post “tweets” that engage,
inspire, and motived your volunteers
to action all with the click of a button.
These tweets can then be shared
and passed on, for larger impact.
• # Hashtags are used to categorize
your tweets for easier access and
searchability.
Social Media
• Messenger Program to
communicate with Multiple
individuals at once.
• Send your volunteer group a
message/video/document,
and more in one go.
• FREE
• Post images and have your
volunteers follow your
organization’s impact.
• Use the Hashtag to create
trends and shares of your
organization’s experience.
• YouTube is a free Video
Sharing platform.
• Have a video that tells a
story about your
NPO/NGO, post it here,
and have your volunteers
share it. Pass it on.
Social Media Action Plan
1. Create an account for the social media sites you intend
to use.
2. Get all your current volunteers to “like” and “follow” your
pages, and #tags.
3. Identify what message your NPO wants to send out.
1. Create a timeline plan for these posts to occur
2. Let your supporters know ahead of time so they can support
you as your posts.
Getting your time constrained volunteers engaged.
• Get them engaged online.
• With just a few moments your volunteers can share your posts,
respond to calls of action, and participate in online connections.
• Social Media Volunteer
• Blogging and sharing
• Motivator
Getting your time constrained volunteers engaged.
• Find tasks/actions that volunteers can do outside of normal
hours.
• Have an upcoming event, and need flyers posted around town?
Put out requests for volunteers to do this.
• Make posts to Social Media
• Have them take pictures and post to Instagram
• Making Pledges and sharing those pledges
• And much more.
Getting your time constrained volunteers engaged.
• Have a special occasion, encourage volunteers to post
statuses that relate to your NPO’s mission.
• Have your volunteers spread and maximize the hype for what
your organization does.
• Get volunteers to share their story on why they support
your NPO, and post that on your page.
The Volunteer Management System Features
• Non Profits Come in different shapes and sizes.
• Their volunteer initiatives may also differ, but we can all agree
that the basics are necessary.
• The other pieces to consider:
• Cost
• Usability
• Adaptability
• And longevity.
The Volunteer Management System Features
• The Basic Abilities:
• Hold Volunteer Information
• Mail Merge
• Notes
• Assignments
• Hour Tracking
• Updates
The Volunteer Management System Features
• The Intermediate Abilities:
• Schedule tracking
• Notifications to Volunteer and Supervisor
• Volunteer Event Management
• Meeting Tracking
• Volunteer Appreciation
• Singe entry
The Volunteer Management System Features
• The Dream Abilities:
• A volunteer Portal
• For asking questions
• Reporting tasks
• Live Feedback
• Post Ideas
• Direct Integration with Social Media
• And so much more.
How do you choose?
• If you search online for a Volunteer Management system,
you will find lists, upon lists. Who has the time to evaluate
each one.
• Here are some tips to consider when choosing.
• Come up with Winning Requirements
• Who Needs This?
• What Need/s will this system meet?
• Why do you have these needs?
• Will this system need to do other things besides Volunteer
Management?
Tim’s Suggestion
Before you go into a sales call with any service.
1. Have a clear idea of what the organization can afford
2. Be clear about what your system needs to accomplish.
3. If you are in a larger organization, get the other people that will
use this software into the conversation.
• Nothing is worse than spending time and money on a solution, and then
find that the people who would use it, wont because of a need they have
is not being met. (believe me, it happens more than you think)
• Have coffee, tea, or even a walk to discuss this with your team. Meetings
don’t have to be at the office or boring, have fun. The idea is that we are
making work easier so they can focus on other things.
Recap on actions.
• With Social Media a lot of these tools are free to use, you
can pay to increase the reach of your posts.
• In this time and age, use social media to your advantage.
• To engage a larger audience.
• To inspire, move, and motivate
• Utilize your time constrained volunteers to complete
simple easy, and quick tasks that help move your mission
forward.
• Find the right volunteer management system that meets
your organizations needs.

  • 8. • Low/No Code Data Platform. • Allows Citizen Developers to build applications and solutions with ease.
  • 9. A little bit about Tim • I am 24 years old. (Millennial) • I have been working in the NPO/NGO sector for the last decade. (Yes I was 14 years old when I joined my first NPO) • I am passionate about making NPO’s more efficient, and providing them the tools to make a higher impact. • I graduated from Southern Oregon University with my bachelors degree in Business and Information Systems. • I started my own Non Profit Consulting Business in 2016 • I started my role as the Non Profit Community Leader at Kintone, on January of 2018 and have been able to serve and support over 40 individual non profits. • And I got to where I am at because for the first 8 years, I volunteered my time.
  • 10. The Reason for this Presentation
  • 11. What we will be covering • Social Media Plans and Tips • Tips to work with time constrained volunteers • The System Features
  • 12.
  • 13. We live in a technologically saturated world. In 2019, there are 4.68 Billion people using smartphones
  • 14. We live in a technologically saturated world. Of that number, 2.9 Billion of them are on Social Media That’s 62%!
  • 15. There are multiple ways of communicating with Volunteers. Texting Phone Calls E-Mails In Person Social Media
  • 16. Social Media Facebook Twitter WhatsApp Instagram YouTube Social Media is a tool that NPO’s can use to engage a large audience of volunteers, donors, constituents, and collaborators with ease. They can be daunting, but once you have started and have the ball rolling it is very powerful.
  • 17. Social Media Facebook Twitter • Allows you the ability to create a page. • Similar to a website this page allows volunteers to learn about your organization, and get involved. • You can start volunteer groups, and get information out quickly with ease and low cost. • For $ you can boost your ads, and messaging. • Allowing you a 140 character limit, you can post “tweets” that engage, inspire, and motived your volunteers to action all with the click of a button. These tweets can then be shared and passed on, for larger impact. • # Hashtags are used to categorize your tweets for easier access and searchability.
  • 18. Social Media WhatsApp Instagram YouTube • Messenger Program to communicate with Multiple individuals at once. • Send your volunteer group a message/video/document, and more in one go. • FREE • Post images and have your volunteers follow your organization’s impact. • Use the Hashtag to create trends and shares of your organization’s experience. • YouTube is a free Video Sharing platform. • Have a video that tells a story about your NPO/NGO, post it here, and have your volunteers share it. Pass it on.
  • 19. Social Media Action Plan 1. Create an account for the social media sites you intend to use. 2. Get all your current volunteers to “like” and “follow” your pages, and #tags. 3. Identify what message your NPO wants to send out. 1. Create a timeline plan for these posts to occur 2. Let your supporters know ahead of time so they can support you as your posts.
  • 20. Getting your time constrained volunteers engaged. • Get them engaged online. • With just a few moments your volunteers can share your posts, respond to calls of action, and participate in online connections. • Social Media Volunteer • Blogging and sharing • Motivator
  • 21. Getting your time constrained volunteers engaged. • Find tasks/actions that volunteers can do outside of normal hours. • Have an upcoming event, and need flyers posted around town? Put out requests for volunteers to do this. • Make posts to Social Media • Have them take pictures and post to Instagram • Making Pledges and sharing those pledges • And much more.
  • 22. Getting your time constrained volunteers engaged. • Have a special occasion, encourage volunteers to post statuses that relate to your NPO’s mission. • Have your volunteers spread and maximize the hype for what your organization does. • Get volunteers to share their story on why they support your NPO, and post that on your page.
  • 23.
  • 24. The Volunteer Management System Features • Non Profits Come in different shapes and sizes. • Their volunteer initiatives may also differ, but we can all agree that the basics are necessary. • The other pieces to consider: • Cost • Usability • Adaptability • And longevity.
  • 25. The Volunteer Management System Features • The Basic Abilities: • Hold Volunteer Information • Mail Merge • Notes • Assignments • Hour Tracking • Updates
  • 26. The Volunteer Management System Features • The Intermediate Abilities: • Schedule tracking • Notifications to Volunteer and Supervisor • Volunteer Event Management • Meeting Tracking • Volunteer Appreciation • Singe entry
  • 27. The Volunteer Management System Features • The Dream Abilities: • A volunteer Portal • For asking questions • Reporting tasks • Live Feedback • Post Ideas • Direct Integration with Social Media • And so much more.
  • 28. How do you choose? • If you search online for a Volunteer Management system, you will find lists, upon lists. Who has the time to evaluate each one. • Here are some tips to consider when choosing. • Come up with Winning Requirements • Who Needs This? • What Need/s will this system meet? • Why do you have these needs? • Will this system need to do other things besides Volunteer Management?
  • 29. Tim’s Suggestion Before you go into a sales call with any service. 1. Have a clear idea of what the organization can afford 2. Be clear about what your system needs to accomplish. 3. If you are in a larger organization, get the other people that will use this software into the conversation. • Nothing is worse than spending time and money on a solution, and then find that the people who would use it, wont because of a need they have is not being met. (believe me, it happens more than you think) • Have coffee, tea, or even a walk to discuss this with your team. Meetings don’t have to be at the office or boring, have fun. The idea is that we are making work easier so they can focus on other things.
  • 30. Recap on actions. • With Social Media a lot of these tools are free to use, you can pay to increase the reach of your posts. • In this time and age, use social media to your advantage. • To engage a larger audience. • To inspire, move, and motivate • Utilize your time constrained volunteers to complete simple easy, and quick tasks that help move your mission forward. • Find the right volunteer management system that meets your organizations needs.
