1. How to select the right heavy duty Quick Connect
Coupling for your applications ?
2. Definition of a Quick Disconnect Coupling
• A device that can facilitate the connection and disconnection of an
attachment to a power source, without the use of toools, while maintaining
system integrity.
• Quick Disconnect Couplings are labor saving devices, which expedite the
connection and disconnection of Hydraulic , Pneumatic and Fluid Transfer
components and hoses.

4. Flow
• System flow rate is one of the most valuable pieces of information needed
and yet it often misunderstood. When design considerations are being
made for coupling size and internal valving, system designers should
always strive to minimize pressure drop to avoid inefficiency in the system.

5. Pressure
• Pressure is the single most important factor in the development of QC.
Pressure influences virtually all of the components in QC and the misapplication of a product to an improper pressure application can lead to
design disastrous results.
• There are 2 forms of pressure:
Static pressure:
- Static pressure is caused by fluid or gas at rest , a constant pressure.
Dynamic pressure:
- Dynamic pressure is caused by fluid or gas in motion, a fluctuating/
pulsating pressure.
Therefore we always ask what kind of application you’re dealing with.

6. Spillage
• Spillage is defined as the small amount of fluid that is lost when a coupling
is disconnected, not be confused with leakage.

7. Air Inclusion
• Air inclusion is defined as the small amount of air infiltration into a system when
a coupling is connected. Here again this test only applies to couplings that seal
at the interface before the valves are open.

8. Temperature
• The temperature can have a dramatic impact on the design of the product.
This generally takes the form of material selection of the base metal and
elastomers used to make the coupling.
• The media compability chart on the next page shows the temperature
range for available seal materials.

10. Environment
• In the context of a quick coupling, environmental factors not only refer to
contamination issue but also the conditions in which the coupling is used.

11. Conditions of certain death
Rotation
• A small rotation of a few degrees is no problem. 360 degrees or more can
lead to a disfunctional coupling, due galling.
Vibration
• High vibration can lead to dangerous situations even in low pressure
applications
Contamination
• To avoid the contamination of dust, sand etcetera use dust plugs and dust
caps in disconnect condition.
Side load
• The couplings always has to be straight in line with the nipple, if not
leakage can appaer.
