This document contains information about an online community called "The Question" including their website, social media accounts, and featured articles. It discusses several poems and songs that contemplate life's big questions. It also explores myths and legends from a scientific lens, examining how myths may have been inspired by historical events or natural phenomena like geological formations.
7. Whiskey
Saw you one Sunday night…I was having coffee,
You walked in alone…You took a drink
Your back against a wall.
I didn’t know your name…But I thought I ought
To Introduce myself…Before you left,
Then you were gone.
If I drank whiskey…it would be easier this time.
If I drank whiskey…Wouldn’t weigh so heavy on my mind
I’d give all I have…Just to be with you
If I drank whiskey…Be so much easier to do.
Saved my last dollar for the juke box…So I could play that song,
So I could hear those words so sweet…By the time my song played,
It was nearly 7…Minutes since you left sitting,
Staring at my empty glass of beer.
Now every single time…I think I blow a line
I die a little bit inside…
If I drank whiskey…Be so much easier, this time.
If I drank whiskey…This wouldn’t feel so unkind.
I’d give all I am…All I am,
Just to be with you…If I drank whiskey, it would be easier to do.
If I drank whiskey be so much easier to do.
If I drank whiskey…I wouldn’t feel
Like this fool
8. Wonder Why I’m Here?
Sometimes, when I lay awake at night…I look out the window stare at
the neighbors street light
I think that the stars are probably so bright…If I was 50 miles away I’d
be amazed at the sight
And I would wonder why I’m here…Wonder why I’m here.
Then I’d roll over and I’d try to go to sleep…And I’d think of the millions
things I have to do by Tuesday next week
Imagine when it’s all done I could take a little break...Head west of there
to some long lost forgotten lake
Sit and wonder why I’m here…Wonder why I’m here.
Words just keep falling out of my head…I Got to write them all down to
remember what I think I said
At the end of the day I am still not sure…What matters at all in this big
old busy world
So I will wonder why I’m here…Wonder why I’m here.
I play this old guitar every single chance I can…It brings me closer to
something I can’t explain
But I hope you understand…I can’t help my self, and I will be damned
I’ll write these songs about my life, it’s who I am
And I will wonder why I’m here…Wonder why I’m here.
9. Free
All the weight of this heavy world…Used to drag me down
Then one day I got it figured out…’Cause I stuck a round
And I’m free…I’m free
Even when it’s cloudy out…I still count the stars
Even when the snow blows cold…I still feel warm
I’m free…I’m free
Every mountain that I climb…Just makes me strong
Every truth that I have found…Was by being wrong
And I’m free…I’m free
Leave it all wide open…And Take a drink
I only feel broken…When I don’t think
I am free…I’m free
30. MYTH
- A traditional or legendary story
- Derived from the Greek word mythos, which means "story".
- Subjects are grand creation or origin stories of the world, of
nature, of civilizations, of culture.
- Characters are gods and goddesses, heroes and heroines,
remarkable animals or plant life.
- Grand visible outcomes (The Devil’s Tower, The Giant’s Causeway)
- Legendary, lost outcomes (The Unicorn, City of Atlantis)
- Stories are set in a timeless past
- “Memes” and “modern myths” perpetuate on the Internet
- Can be a sacred narrative with religious or spiritual significance
31. Science…
The scientific use of the term “myth” implies
neither the truth nor the falseness of the
narrative. This is because scientists understand
that for ancient cultures, a myth by definition is
considered "true", in that it embodies that
particular culture’s beliefs, concepts and ways of
making sense of the world in their time.
32. Us…
Calling something a “myth” is a not-very-kind
expression of our deep cynicism (even mockery)
about seemingly unfounded beliefs (both
religious and non-religious).
Our judgments about myth are a kind of self-
securing “firewall” to the apparent ignorance and
even backwardness of ancient people.
35. Archeomythology is
the study of archeology
through the lens of
mythology as a unique
method of understanding
ancient societies, cultures,
relationships, and factual
history.
36. Archeoastronomy is the study of how ancient
people understood phenomena in the sky, how they
articulated and interacted with these phenomena, and
how these phenomena inspired their culture and
mythology.
49. CYCLOPIA
- A rare congenital birth defect
occurring throughout the
animal kingdom
- Cyclopia in humans occurs in
approximately 1 of every
100,000 pregnancies (.001%)
- 100% mortality rate
(miscarriage, still birth, very
brief post-natal survival)
69. Better Way To Fall
I can't see a difference…Between right and wrong
It's the measure of a life-time..That makes it seem so long.
There ain't a lot of time…Between now and then,
And the wrongs I have gathered…Are the curse of all men.
I do what I can…But I still hear you call
Do it cause it's right…It's a better way to fall.
I can't see a difference…Between satisfaction and regret,
Except the curtain that is hanging…Between my soul and self
respect.
