3. Historical background
• This project took nearly ten years to
complete, but the garden was formally
opened on 13 May 1889.
• Initially called Public Gardens but
later renamed Lake Gardens.
• In 1975, it renamed Taman Tasik
Perdana by Tun Abdul Razak.
• In early 2010, thousands of new plants
and trees were introduced into the
gardens which is the reason for the
official name change to the Botanical
Gardens.
• In 2011, the garden renamed again by
Dato’ Sri Najib Razak.

Layout of the Lake Gardens. Variety of trees along the river.
