This film pitch proposes a teen romantic comedy starring Zac Efron and Emma Roberts. The story follows Chloe, who moves back to her hometown in California to reunite with her childhood friend Jake, only to find that he has become popular and no longer remembers their past. Over the course of the film, shy Chloe tries to win back Jake's affection as she faces obstacles from others. The film aims to attract teen girl audiences by flipping the typical romantic comedy roles - the girl chases the boy rather than vice versa. Marketing would target teens through posters, internet ads, and YouTube to promote the feel-good romantic story.
3. Characters…
Jake- 18 year old male played by Zac Efron
Chloe- 17 year old girl played by Emma Roberts
Mr Thomas (edgy maths teacher)- Tom Hardy
Mr Larkin (Funny Head teacher)- Seth Rogen
4. Film Plot…
• Our film will start out at a modern American High school. Set in California.
• When they where 13 years old Chloe and Jake knew each other because
they lived next to each other and they spent lots of time together and were
both quite geeky. But then Chloe moved away to New York with her family
and they both loss contact with each other until…
4 years later when Chloe moves back to California and ends up at the same
school as Jake, she expects to fall back into Jakes arms. But on arrival she
discovers that everything has changed and Jake has changed and become
one of the ‘popular’ boys. But Chloe is still the shy, geeky girl that she was
before. This films shows the journey of how Chloe is trying to win back Jakes
heart but people and events keep getting in her way of telling Jake how she
really feels.
We have made a twist on the traditional boy chases and girl and put a
modern twist that the girl chases boys.
5. Audience (Enigma Code)…
The audience we are aiming our film at are teen girls, looking for a
feel good film with a twist.
This film makes the viewer want to watch on because there are
questions that have not been answered throughout. Including about
the character Chloe and why she has so few friends and also why the
main boy Jake loves her because he is in a popular group and she
isn’t. They also have an underlined history (they grew up together),
but then got separated because Chloe moved away.
6. Narrative…
• We have the contrast of the good and bad character between the
good students and the bad maths teacher, these have conflict due to
the fact that the students always aggravate Mr Thomas.
• Then we also have the contrast between the sexes and how they have
relationships and how they are scene society.
• The obstacles that get in the way throughout the film is how the male
character (Jake) changes from the opening scenes when it is the
flashback from when they were 13 years old. And then at the present
time when we meet Jake again his character has changed completely
and his a popular, arrogant character.
7. How the film is different to other films…
• This film is different to other teen Rom-coms because it is flipped the
roles of the males and females because usually in rom-coms the boy
chases the girl. But we have put a modern twist on the plot by making
the girl chase the male character.
• Also in most Rom-coms the girl is the more popular one and the boy
is the shy and geeky character out of the two. In our one this is the
other way around which makes our film more unique and less cliché.
8. Marketing…
• We will be marketing our film with posters around the UK (including:
London, Manchester and Essex) on bus stops, buses and billboards.
This is because our market audience which are teens take public
transport a lot. Therefore will be able to see when travelling.
• But also we will be advertising our film on the internet, like pop ups,
advertising on YouTube etc. This is a cheaper way of advertising but is
still very affective because most teen girls use the internet and watch
YouTube so we will be able to target our audience directly.
