Physical imaging
Cutting-edge research in physics, astronomy and engineering laboratories often deals with low light level experimental
conditions, for example when single molecules or dim stars are observed. With Andor Technology’s high-end digital
cameras we provide solutions for such scientific applications. The digital data can
be translated into physical units on photon and electron level. A/D conversion is
done with 14 or 16 bit A/D converters at low read noise.
Andor’s camera technology comprises CCD cameras for UV-VIS and X-ray
imaging, EMCCDs incorporating on-chip electron multiplication, intensified ICCDs
with nanosecond time resolution, and – as the latest innovation – sCMOS cameras.
It depends on the purpose if either a slow scan CCD with low read noise, or a camera with fast frame rate should be
preferred. Andor has the longest experience in operating CCD sensors in sealed and maintenance-free vacuum chambers
that allow deep thermoelectric cooling down to -100 °C and possible exposure times from microseconds to hours.

and efficiency. With the broad range of beam handling accessories these light sources provide fast solutions
for individual applications.
Light sources and monochromators
Combine one of our condenser lens lamp housings and a monochromator for a
versatile, bright source of narrow band radiation. Deuterium, xenon and quartz
tungsten halogen lamps provide output which varies slowly with wavelengths
over radiation. Mercury lamps provide intense ultraviolet lines which the
monochromator selects for luminescence or photochemical studies. Computer
control of the monochromators makes them programmable wavelength sources.
