LINKUP
Silver Spoon Foundation continued its close support
and growing partnership with Sponsors for Educational
Opportunity (SEO) this June. The partnership leverages
the resources and passions of both organizations
for empowering and developing low-income college
students. SEO’s Summer Institute strengthens student’s
career skills and exposes them to professionals across
various industries and trades. Both SEO and Silver Spoon
Foundation assist students with successful transitions
into their careers and also in leveling the playing field for
access to career sculpting networks.
In an effort to build heightened competency with the
world’s largest professional network, LinkedIn, Silver
Spoon Foundation sponsored their signature “LinkUP”
program with SEO’s Summer Institute. As Silver Spoon
Foundation closes in on 1,000 students served thru its
“LinkUP” program (that’s 2 jumbo commercial jets worth
of LinkedIn savvy and workplace ready diverse emerging
professionals) on an ambitious march towards 10K
students served by the end of calendar year 2016. This
particular event was even more exciting with it being the
brands largest student activation of “LinkUP” to date with
102 students on this occasion alone.
LinkUP is a cutting edge signature program started
by Silver Spoon Foundation in the Spring/Summer of
2014. LinkUP gifts underserved (often first generation
and/or minority) college students with professional
headshots by recognized photographers. Additionally,
the program educated these same students on navigating
the revolutionary LinkedIn social platform and managing
their professional presence thru LinkUP’s immersive
education component, LinkedIn Advanced Skills
Education Repertoire (LASER).
The recent initiative with SEO was fortunate to have the
support and expertise of Brian Araujo, an employee of
LinkedIn corporation, which by way of their “LinkedIn
For Good” program graciously volunteered to educate
the audience of “SEO Summer Institute” students on
the savvy and skillful use of LinkedIn as best utilized by
college students.
With a mission to bring LinkedIn competency to both
access and financially challenged emerging professionals,
the “LinkUP” program is gaining fast support. As you
can see in the headshot captions, the LinkUP goal to
gift 10,000 professional head shots to emerging leaders
thru 2016 is certain to be reached, say goodbye to the
“shameless selfie”, the blank/faceless avatar, career
damaging skills/expertise content display and “cropped
out” headshots on the profile’s of young professionals.
