- From AudioVisual Best Practices: Independent design consultant – Often hired by the architects or directly by system owners, the independent design consultant determines the best options for the design of a system and produces specifications for the job that can be competitively bid by systems integrators. Design consultants handle video, audio, data and PC-video, as well as acoustics, lighting, electrical power and other infrastructure. Design consultants are not affiliated with any particular brand or manufacturer so they offer independent advice on system components. - From AudioVisual Best Practices: Systems integrators are skilled professionals who traditionally install AV technologies as integrated systems ensuring compatibility with existing IT systems and providing staff training to use the system. Increasingly, the role of the AV integrator has broadened to include a wider range of services, due to the complexity of the systems. Some integrators now offer consulting and design services. These integrators are referred to as “design-build” firms. NOTE: AV integrators offering design-build services may be contracted to the GC or directly to the Owner.

- Base Building Track involves: Acoustics, lighting, conduit, data, power and space requirements Infrastructure for the systems are designed along with the rest of the building 2. AV Electronics track includes: AV equipment (audio, video, AV control and AV wiring) AV electronics are designed later in construction process
- AV system design and installation at construction phase – employing current AV technologies. Due to the length of the design and construction process, the bulk of the electronics design is often completed after the base building is contracted and construction is underway.
