Definition -
Skin cancers are cancers that arise from the
skin. It is due to the development of abnormal
cells that have the ability to invade or spread
to other parts of the body.

5. Introduction Continued -
Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer
Skin cancers are either non-melanoma or melanoma.
A persistent skin lesion that does not heal is highly
suspicious for malignancy and should be examined by a
health care provider.
Early detection and treatment can often lead to a highly
favourable prognosis.
The visibility of the skin lesions increases the likelihood
of early detection and diagnosis.
One person dies of melanoma every hour
on average a persons risk for melanoma doubles if he or
she has had more than five sunburns.
About 90% of nonmelanoma skin cancers causes due to
ultraviolet radiation.
