What We Have Done
SPORTS MEDICINE
• The Commission established a Sports Medicine Centre at
the former LOC Building located at Package B of the
National Stadium Complex, Abuja.
• Conducted pre-Games medical assessment on all
National Athletes that competed for Nigeria during the
last All Africa Games.

SPORTS MEDICINE
• The National Sports Commission also established a
National Anti-doping Committee to run a credible
National Anti-doping program. The World Anti-Doping
Agency (WADA) has categorised Nigeria as being Anti-
Doping code compliant.

FACILITY MANAGEMENT
• Efforts are on going to achieve a successful PPP with
respect to the sports facilities under our purview, we
have engaged the ICRC and BPE for this programme.
• Partnership understanding on facility development has
been reached between us, Bauchi and Gombe State
Governments respectively.

NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL
• Online processing of accreditation for all participants.
At the end of the exercise, a total of 15,430 athletes
and officials were accredited without hitch for the 17th
Edition of the National sports Festival, hosted by
Rivers State.
• Standardised bidding process for the award of the
National Sports Festival hosting rights.

NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL
• Lagos State will host the 2012 Edition of the Festival.
• The hosting rights for the 2014 edition of the NSF was
won by Cross River State.
• The bid process for the hosting rights of the 2016
Festival has commenced and would be concluded on
the 26th of October, 2012.

IMPROVED ATHLETES’ PERFORMANCE
• Nigeria Basket Ball, female and male teams ranked 20th
and 21st respectively in the world.
• The female 4 x 100m and 4 x 400 relay teams ranked 5th
and 6th in the world respectively.

• As at 11th May, 2012, at the Samsung Diamond League
held in Doha, Qatar, Blessing Okagbare is rated the 5th
fastest woman (100m) in the world (IAAF Ranking).

Athletics, Para-Table Tennis and Powerlifting.

off-shore camps in South Korea, Germany, Surrey and
Atlanta.
• The South Korean Camp will service all the Paralympic
sports and Taekwondo.

• Meanwhile, Taekwondo has been in camp in Seoul since
April and are engaged in training tour of Taiwan and
Belgium.
• Track and Field camp in Atlanta opened 3rd March, 2012
and have competed in international competitions in
Mount Sac, Pennsylvania and Atlanta.

• Following the completion of the Qualifiers, Wrestling,

Yenagoa, Benin and Owerri. Thereafter, the teams shall
leave for Germany on the 31st of May, 2012 for intensive
off-shore training.

• The Pre-Games training camp in Surrey shall serve as a

• The Paralympians shall move into the surrey camp on the
18th of August, 2012.

NATIONAL SPORTS MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM
• The process of establishing a National Sports
Management Information System at Federal, State, Local
government and School sports levels began in 2011. This
is to be achieved through the development of a National
Sports people data based Web Portal, which at the
moment, is in progress.

ESTABLISHMENT OF PARALYMPIC COMMITTEE OF NIGERIA
• In accordance with the requirements of the International
Paralympic Committee coupled with the successes of
Nigeria’s Paralympic athletes in International
competitions, the National Sports Commission
established the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria (PCN)
which enjoys the same status as the Nigeria Olympic
Committee (NOC).

RESTORATION OF PEACE IN THE NFA
• As a result of the several parleys, consultations and
interventions initiated by the NSC, peace was achieved in
Nigerian football.
• The major parties involved in the crises agreed to
withdraw the numerous cases in court. These cases had
dragged on for many years and contributed to the poor
performance of national teams.

VISIT TO FIFA
• At a meeting with FIFA’s President Sepp Blatter and other
top executives in Zurich, Switzerland, the world football
governing body pledged to collaborate with Nigeria for
the development of our football.
• FIFA praised Nigerian Government for its financial
contributions to NFA and recalled with gratitude the role
Nigeria has played in hosting FIFA age-grade
competitions in the past.

What We Have Done
ATHLETES’ WELFARE
• The Sports Commission accords high premium to athletes
welfare. Bonuses are paid promptly. All other incidentals
such as insurance to assure confidence in the athletes,
have been instituted and meticulously implemented.
• Consequently athletes and officials have demonstrated
commendable patriotic zeal at representing the country
even where their entitlements are late in coming.
