“Every day you may make progress.
Every step may be fruitful. Yet there
will stretch out before you an ever-
            lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-
improving path. You know you will
never get to the end of the journey.

  3. Once upon a time, many years ago I was young geek who worked on software and IT projects. Every day I watched too many good people and good projects fail to meet business goals.Have you ever seen failed projects at work?  It hurts, doesn't it? One day I discovered the secret to successful projects.   I learned that leadership is the key to effectively moving people and delivering  business value. Because of this I began to study what it means to be a leader and how to lead others effectively.  I learned that leadership is a skill that can be learned, and over time I practiced those skills and became a better leader. Because of this new awareness, I began to see that few tech leaders understood this secret.  Few of them ever study these types of skills.  I really wanted to help them learn what I learned Until finally I created a business with to help tech leaders get more from their teams.  Would you like to know how I do it?
  4. In actual studies of leadership it has been proven that the average executive spends three quarters of his working day dealing with people. Most people can trace their successes and failures to the relationships in their lives.
  5. Discussion: For people vs. business vs. technical knowledge and the impact of recognizing both How to find out about your company - 360 degree view How to find out about the people Balancing on the ballPeople includes you .. how you will lead.technical <> technology (think hard skills)====================================================================================From my L&L scriptYour pay is commensurate with the business value that you add to the organization. the company doesn't give the highest rewards to the person who has the most organized books, or cutting edge technology, or the most on-time, on budget projects. The company is not in business to do those things. Sure, those things need to happen for the business to succeed, but that is not why the business exists. Those things are a means to an end. The end is the why behind the business. Here's what you need to know in order to increase your influence and really grow:Technical knowledge - you already know this- you've spent years preparing for it.Business knowledge - What does your business do? Who do you serve? Why does your company exist? What does it really value?People knowledge - It's not "just politics" or "sucking up to bosses" How can you really begin to influence others? This is learnable, and just a few key ideas can lead to unbelievable results! When you begin to expand your knowledge into these three areas, you'll start to see some incredible things happening. It won't even take long - you'll start to see why things happen the way they do, and then how you can take advantage of these patterns and trends to make your team even more successful. One is too small a number ot achieve anything of significance. If you’re lonely at the top, you did it wrong.Imagine a future where your boss and your boss' boss hear what you have to say. This is a future where your ideas really gain traction. A time and place where they want you n the room because you have important insights that they need to hear. They "get it" and you "get it."Impossible? No! It's possible, and we'll talk more about that.
  6. Know Yourself – this is a reality issue. Know what you do well and what you don’t do well. Be prepared to be criticized – you cannot impart what you do not possess.
  7. Vision of LeadershipWhat is your vision of leadershipCan you sell it? If yes, why, If no, why not. What are the challenges? Exercise: Craft your vision of leadership. Intention vs Impact
  8. Love and accept yourselfPut energy into being likableRemember their namesFocus on their interestsRequest the help of othersAdd value to people
  9. If you climb without connecting you may gain authority but you won’t have many friendsIf you connect well but possess little desire to climb, you may end up with many friends but not much authority to accomplish anythingClimbing and Connecting are not an either/or but a both/and.

  11. Getting to Go
