Implementation Plan
Training
Your Upswing account manager will visit campus to teach your tutors how to use the
platform, typically during your usual training schedule.

This will get kicked off with a call to your IT or technology management staff so we can
discuss various integration points and how best to promote your school’s Upswing portal to
students.

Notes:
This is a checklist of tasks that Upswing will complete, often with your assistance or that of
your administration and staff, in order to successfully implement the Upswing platform and
resources at your school.
Remember, students and tutors will have around the clock support for any technical or
operational questions.

Retention Plan
Upswing wants to work with you towards reducing your attrition by at least 10%.
02 Communication
Upswing will take various steps to increase activity on your Upswing portal, such as through emails,
handouts, and the Campus Ambassador Program. We also use feedback from students and coaches alike,
along with web analytics, to guide our product development process.
Project Tasks:
A bi-weekly email to students to notify them of a) help available online from our expert coaches as well as
your own, b) promotions that we introduce, c) new features and improvements to the platform. We will also
email your tutors with notifications if they do not access the platform for extended periods of time.
As described in the Implemenation Plan, Upswing will seek out two students at your school to promote the
use of your Upswing portal among students. These Campus Ambassadors will occasionally share handouts
and flyers, but will also be vocal on social media and vie email.
01 Assignments
With your help, we would like to encourage faculty to make Upswing an essential part of their curriculum
Project Tasks:
Upswing will create a specific URL off of your portal that contains an“assignment”for students to complete
that will walk them through their (first) tutoring session. In the future, this assignment will be tracked and
the results can be provided back to teachers.
We also strongly recommend that teachers make tutoring mandatory for students that need it: students that
have performed poorly on tests, quizes, etc. In an upcoming feature release, there will be a teacher portal for
that will facilitate this process.
03 Tracking Attrition
Over the course of each year, Upswing would like to collect various information from you in order to
determine ways of helping your students stay in school.
Project Tasks:
Share with Upswing the rate of attrition for the prior year
Through the periodic upload of active student accounts (and inactive ones), Upswing will determine the rate
of attrition for the current year. These bulk files are typically shared by your technology staff in order to make
sure that only active students have access to your portal.

(August 15, 2014 - December 31, 2014). The information provided represents time spent
online with both Upswing Coaches and Durham Tech coaches.
Overview

A summary of session data for Durham Tech students:
• A total of 103 sessions and 104 hours have been completed
• Durham Tech students have spent 102 hours in sessions with Upswing Coaches
• Students have most often sought help in chemistry and math
• 40 students completed sessions in Upswing

Student Body Penetration

In the fall 2014 semester, 40 students completed Upswing sessions. This is approximately
.75% of the Durham Tech’s ~5,500 enrolled students.1
This rate of student body penetration
ranks in the 1st
quartile of all Upswing implementations (better than 20% of all colleges).
Considering the late September launch of Upswing at Durham Tech, this is a substantial
percentage of students.

In October we instituted the Campus Ambassador Program. At Durham Tech, we enlisted the
help of student Oluwakemi Dawodu to spread awareness of Upswing around campus and!
