และยังมีการกระตุ้น interferon stimulated genes หลายชนิด นอกจากนี้ยังชักนำ�ให้เกิดกระบวนการ autophagy
ซึ่งอาจช่วยส่งเสริมการเพิ่มจำ�นวนของไวรัสภายในเซลล์(21)
จากนั้นไวรัสซิกาจึงเข้าสู่ต่อมนํ้าเหลือง และกระแสเลือด
ต่อไป
การศึกษาในสัตว์ทดลองพบว่าหลังการติดเชื้อ ไวรัสซิกามักจะเพิ่มจำ�นวนขึ้นภายในเซลล์ประสาท และ
astroglialcellsเป็นส่วนใหญ่(24)
โดยจะพบปริมาณไวรัสขนาดสูงที่สมองไขสันหลังและอัณฑะสำ�หรับหนูทดลองที่ขาด
interferon-α และ β ภายหลังจากติดเชื้อไวรัสซิกาแล้วจะมีอาการทางระบบประสาทที่รุนแรงจนทำ�ให้เสียชีวิตได้(25)
ไวรัสซิกาสามารถเพิ่มจำ�นวนได้ในเซลล์ผิวหนัง และ dendritic cells ของมนุษย์(21)
แต่ปัจจัยที่ส่งผลต่อความรุนแรง
ของโรคในคนนั้นยังไม่เป็นที่ทราบแน่ชัด
ในผู้ป่วยที่ติดเชื้อไวรัสซิกาแบบเฉียบพลัน จะเกิดการกระตุ้น T cell (Th1, Th2, Th9 และ Th17) อย่างมาก
และทำ�ให้เกิดการสร้างinterleukinหลายชนิดในเลือดเช่นIL-1β,IL-2,IL-4,IL-6,IL-9,IL-13และIL-17ขึ้นมาทันที(26)
นอกจากนี้ยังมีการกระตุ้น macrophage inflammatory protein1α และ vascular endothelial growth factor
ร่วมด้วย อย่างไรก็ตาม ข้อมูลต่างๆ เหล่านี้เป็นเพียงข้อมูลเบื้องต้นที่รอการศึกษาค้นคว้าเพิ่มเติมต่อไปในอนาคต

จากข้อมูลข้างต้นจะเห็นได้ว่าข้อมูลของแหล่งรังโรคและการติดเชื้อไวรัสซิกาในสัตว์เลี้ยงและสัตว์ป่านั้นยังมี
สิ่งที่ต้องค้นคว้าวิจัยเพิ่มเติมอย่างมาก สำ�หรับในประเทศไทยซึ่งพบว่ามีผู้ป่วยติดเชื้อไวรัสซิกาในหลายพื้นที่ แต่ยังขาด
ข้อมูลที่สำ�คัญต่างๆ ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการกระจายตัวของเชื้อไวรัสซิกาในสัตว์ชนิดต่างๆ ที่อยู่ในชุมชน และในธรรมชาติ
ดังนั้นจำ�เป็นต้องมีการศึกษาถึงความเชื่อมโยงของการติดเชื้อในสัตว์รวมถึงยุงพาหะในพื้นที่ระบาด และพื้นที่ที่มีสัตว์
ตระกูลลิงอาศัยอยู่หนาแน่น เพื่อประเมินคุณสมบัติของสัตว์ในการเป็นแหล่งรังโรค ข้อมูลเหล่านี้ย่อมเป็นประโยชน์
ต่อการควบคุม และป้องกันโรค และสามารถใช้ในการจัดการความเสี่ยงอย่างมีประสิทธิภาพในอนาคตได้
