Notas del editor
vSphere is offered in three different packages that help satisfy the different needs to customers.
vSphere 6.0 is the foundation of the Software Defined Data Center, but it is only really just the start.
As data centers grow in size and complexity, vSphere with Operations Management will provide that additional functionality to plan capacity, assess health, and monitor performance.
Finally, as customers move from a virtualized data center to a full private cloud, vCloud Suite offers the products and features to provide the automation and business transparency required to deliver a true IT as a Service model.
Regardless of the package or how customers get vSphere, KNOW that with vSphere 6, customers get the industry leading virtualization platform and the foundation of any software defined data center.
vSphere 6 - The Largest vSphere Launch To-Date with 650+ Features
Scale and Performance
Scale and Performance improvements through out entire vSphere Platform
NVIDIA GRID vGPU drastically improves 2D and 3D performance for graphic intensive applications in virtual desktop environments
Instant Clone lays the foundation for quick cloning and deployment, up to 10x faster that what is currently possible today
Industry-first availability that aligns with the customers and appliance demands.
vMotion enhancements extends of use cases for live migrations across the boundaries of vCenters Server, virtual switches, and over long distances.
Multi-processor fault tolerance enables continuous availability for virtual machines with up to 4-vCPU. This means that 93% of virtual workloads can now use vSphere Fault Tolerance.
Simplified Management
Content Library provides simple and effective management for content including VM templates, ISO images, and scripts. Sharing of the content can be done using a publish/subscribe model.
vSphere web client has been significantly improved, to be more responsive and streamlined
Choice
With vSphere you have choice in how to build and operate your cloud environment.
Doesn’t just have to be the VMware stack. Can utilized third party technologies such as Linux containers and OpenStack if you desire. Also, there is increased interoperability with vCloud Air for hybrid environments.
Add value to VVol/VSAN as part of larger SDS vision of extending to 3rd party data services
- Extend SDS vision to ecosystem .. Done through VVOl, VAIO and VADP
VAIO is newest
Partners are VAIO Integrated
For #1 – could be either IT Ops or Developer but would most likely be more of an apps type person on a devops team
We strongly believe that the best way to run OpenStack is on VMware
And with VMware Integrated OpenStack, development teams have the OpenStack API they love while IT has a best of breed infrastructure, fast and simplified deployment and operation, and a single support contract from VMware, including the OpenStack Open source code
T: Last but not least let’s talk about how we’re securely bridging the private, public and hybrid worlds
Example 1: Disaster Recovery:
Imagine you have your mission-critical applications running on-premises in your data center and you need Disaster Recovery options
Wouldn’t it be great if you could:
Obtain a wide variety and scale of business continuity, protection and recovery processes with resizable and reliable infrastructure resources in the Public Cloud and
Manage and execute critical recovery processes centrally with a single unified hybrid platform across both the onsite data center and off-site cloud services.
Example 2: Extending the Data Center to meet business demands
Imagine you are running a business-critical application your data center and due to the seasonality of your business, you need additional capacity beyond your private cloud
Wouldn’t it be great if you could spin up new resources in the Public Cloud, in time and rapidly, to meet the demands of your business, with consistent and common management tools
Imagine you are running an application that needs to be run close to where your end-customers are -> wouldn’t it be great if you could use the public cloud to host the application close to your end users and be able to manage it seamlessly through consistent management tool
Example 3: Dev/Test/Production in the Cloud with a need to repatriate the application back on-premises:
Imagine your LoB has a need to develop a cloud-native application
Your developers start development in the Public Cloud, get started quickly, and deploy it in production in the Public Cloud for use by end-customers
This application really takes off well in the market and all of a sudden the Public Cloud becomes very expensive.
In addition, you are concerned about compliance and security and you need to make a decision to bring the application or some components of the application back to your Private Cloud
Wouldn’t it be great if you could bring your application back to your Private cloud without code or configuration changes?
Example 4: Composite application:
You have your systems of record on-premises which are most likely going to reside on-premises in your lifetime
Meanwhile your developers are developing a new mobile application in the Public Cloud, a system of engagement with your end-customers
This mobile application has dependencies on systems of record, including data, applications and authentication services
Wouldn’t it be great if you could have a converged operation where the development, performance and scalability of this next-generation application is served by a cloud service, yet has seamless operational integration with on-premises applications and data in the existing data centers?
Consistent Management
Ability to consistently, comprehensively and easily manage on-premises and off-premises resources through one familiar set of tools, API and CLI, empowering your team to be more effective
Elastic consumption of resources with consistency for applications:
Ability to flexibly deliver necessary resources in time to support business needs, scaling up or down as required. Customers can choose the right environment based on their needs (cost, needs of the application, stage of development and maturity of the application)
Consistency for applications, for traditional and cloud-native applications, on-premises and in the cloud – deploy and run anywhere without code changes
Enterprise-level Security and Business Continuity
Deliver enterprise-level security and availability required, based on business needs
Virtual SAN 6.0 is the second-generation of VMware’s hypervisor-converged storage for VMs. Virtual SAN 6.0 capabilities are centered on delivering high performance and increased scale without compromising simplicity and cost-effectiveness.
Most notably, Virtual SAN 6.0 now allows to create an all-flash architecture in which the VSAN datastore is carved entirely out of flash devices – i.e. SSDs are used for both caching and data persistence
In VSAN 6.0, performance has been improved with 2x more IOPS on the hybrid configuration and 4x more IOPS on All-Flash, making VSAN ideal for high performance applications which require consistent response times and low latencies
Virtual SAN 6.0 also features twice the scale, with the ability to scale to 64 hosts per VSAN cluster
In addition, VSAN 6.0 can scale to run up to 200 VMs per host representing a 50% increase over the previous version
It also features a new file system called the VSAN file system which provides efficient snapshots and clones
Rack-awareness provides the ability to tolerate rack failures for a VSAN cluster that spans multiple racks
Support for hardware controller-based checksums helps detects data corruption issues while support for hardware-based encryption can encrypt ‘data-at-rest’ for workloads that require the added level of security
