This document discusses eye donation and corneal blindness in India. It notes that India accounts for 30% of global blindness, with 52 million visually impaired people and 25,000 new cases of corneal blindness annually. The cornea is a clear tissue at the front of the eye that allows light to enter; corneal blindness can result from injuries, infections, malnutrition or other causes. The document encourages families to donate the eyes of deceased loved ones to help restore sight to those suffering from corneal blindness.

OF GLOBALS BLINDNESS
• Visually impaired : 52 million
• Blind children : one in every 1000 children
• Annual collection : 40,720
• Annual addition : twenty to twenty five thousand
Corneal blindness effects mainly children and young

to disease, injury or infection.
4. MAIN CAUSES OF CORNEAL BLINDNESS
• Injuries
• Malnutrition
• Infections
• Chemical burns
• Congenital disorders
• Post operative complications
