1. Origin of ‘PsyKo’ Idea
Recently, there has been a compilation of clown attacks taking place, especially in America. “'Killer clown'
sightings spread to Florida, Virginia, Colorado.” It states that “killer clowns” have been sighted in these
three states, where the struggle with internet rumours and reported sighting have left several towns living in
terror.
Similar to this, there have been many news reports in relation with clowns creeping up on people and
sneaking into their garden and front yard. Even though no harm was done in this case, there has been stories
where people have been hurt and sometimes killed, for example “House of Snorers- 18 People Found
Massacred In Haunted House Attraction”. Cases like this are very rare but does happen, including this I
came across 4 other cases similar to this. However, most of them tend to take place in America, Canada,
Germany and Sweden, not necessarily “killer clowns” but something similar to this.

SYNOPSIS
Dreamville Productions will produce a 5-8-minute psychological thriller film that comes under the name
‘PsyKo’, about how a girl’s loneliness and despair turn to such hatred that ends up making her do things she
isn’t “aware” of. Students go missing, all from the same school, same year group, and all friends, so who
and why is this outcast taking them out one by one…
Kasharna (17), Kundai (aka Dai Dai- 18), and Rhys (17) are in year 13 and they all became friends when
they started 6th form due to having the same classes. Varshini (17) who was sitting in the media suite doing
her work saw them coming in, she has seen them before but never spoken to them. She wasn’t too keen on
them anyway. Sensing her dislike towards them, they decide to pick on her and bully her to pass the time.
As days went by, they got rowdier, and unable to talk about this to anyone Varshini decides to ignore them.
This didn’t help, as a matter of fact it made matters worse.
Having no way to express her pain and anger Varshini tormented herself and ends up taking it out on her
friends, who then decides to leave her. Compressing all the pain, anger, and negligence gradually leads to a
split personality that attempts to seek revenge. This eventually leads up to a killing spree where she
encounters them one by one for what they have done and turned her into. This is where both climax and
resolution concludes, all during the birth of the ‘PsyKo’.
PROPOSAL
Content Outline:
The film is going be based on a psychological thriller, how a girl is forcefully changed due to bullying and
negligence. PsyKo is her split personality, of course she isn’t aware of this; which gives that extra kick.
There are a variety of great Psychological Thrillers that are worth your time, for instance, Das Experiment,
Angel Heart, A Tale of Two Sisters, Jacob’s Ladder and many more. ‘PsyKo’ is both a psychological thriller
and social realist film, highlighting the dangers of bullying to the intended target audience in a way that they
can relate. For instance, cyber bullying. Going for a psychological thriller and social realist hybrid has given
room to play around with the story and the privilege to scare the audience as well as being able to relate and
make them sit on the edge, this immediately gives the film a plus point as it is controlling and playing with
their curiosity. Social realism films tend to attract a wide audience since it applies to everyone and viewers
are able to find themselves relevant to the situation, meaning that it will pull in a bigger audience and
perhaps break the intended audience. Psychological Thriller are mainly preferred by teens and adults as they

Target Audience:

under the genre that may not appeal to them all. PsyKo features the main character wearing a clown mask,

the film is based on the bloody, gory and psychotic actions that takes place by the clowns. Psychological
Thriller are mainly preferred by teens and adults and my film is aimed as they are the ones to most likely to
watch thriller based movies. “PsyKo” is aimed toward ages between 16-45. They are easily compelled
towards horror and psychological thriller based movies and will be willing to try anything new. Allowing
me to play with different ideas and alter the conventions. Moreover, a survey was conducted which 95% of
the participants were aged between 16-45.
However, when evaluating the genre of the movie there are chances that it would break the intended target
audience, as a fusion of social realism. Meaning that ages above the intended target audience would be
attracted. It is not aimed towards any specific gender, and that it does not favour or only attract a specific
gender. The message of the film applies to everyone and made to be enjoyed by everyone.
Conducting the survey was helpful as it informed with what people in this generation look for in films,
especially in genres like horror, psychological, thriller, supernatural horror. One of the question in the
survey was to ‘Rank the order of your favourite genre from your favourite to least favourite?’. With the
given options Horror and Thriller were in the top 3 with action being 1st. This shows that there is still a good
chance for PsyKo to be recognised.
Resources:
Most of the scene would be shot during night time meaning that obtaining a good resolution camera is
priority, especially night vision just to capture every single detail of the scene. Lighting is crucial in any film
since obtaining a decent camera wouldn’t show the film’s full potential. It is essential to get the atmosphere
right, when directing a movie, it is vital to understand and know what techniques to use in order to grab the
audience’s full attention. Choosing the perfect will mirror the atmosphere of each scenes, so the school
scenes would be done in the The Beacon School and the murder scene would be either shot at the Chipstead
Valley Parks/Woods or Nork Park. Getting permission to film during school hours is the only tricky part
since they wouldn’t allow filming during lesson periods due to disturbances. If this is not properly done it
can really affect the movies purpose and the atmosphere it is trying to create within the cinema, or worse by
destroying the whole plot. Using CGI during the murder scenes would really bring out the character’s gory
side and make it seem more realistic and believable when watching it through a viewer’s point of view,
however, quality CGI is out of the question due to the tight budget.
