4. Sloan A&I programme
The Sloan Adoption and Integration programme ends
September 2014.
• 9 projects
• 7 Universities
• Multiple platforms (Dspace, Fedora, VIVO,
orcid.org
Symplectic…)
• 2 Scholarly societies
The project reports are coming in NOW.
5. Outreach and Adoption
Getting researchers to claim IDs…
orcid.org
• Denmark
The DEFF-funded ORCID implementation project has the
goal 80 % participation by researchers… project funds are
subject to registration thresholds of 40 %, 60 % and 80 %
of the total number of FTE researchers.
• Portugal
A nationwide call for all FCT-funded investigators to
register with ORCID.
6. Outreach and Adoption
Getting researchers to claim IDs.

• Italy and Norway
Aiming to exploit touchpoints with researchers’ existing
workflows to drive adoption
7. ORCID developments
orcid.org
In the last year we have:
• Enabled connections between researchers and
organisations
• Added connections with Funding awards
• Connections with ISNI
• Improved user interface - ONGOING
• Public API supports authentication
We are continuing to roll out improvements.
9. ORCID developments

Roundtripping.
Authors
ORCID will
provide
functionality for
authors to
“roundtrip” their
information by the
end of 2014.
10. ORCID and Datasets
ORCID and DataCite Interoperability Network (ODIN)
2 year, European Commission FP7 project.
September 2012 to September 2014

11. ORCID and Datasets
PIDs are as useful as the connections between them.
ODIN built proof-of-concept connections:
• EThOS
• ISNI
• Dryad Digital Repository
• Australian National Data Service
• INSPIRE
• Archaeology Data Service
Harmonised metadata schemas and built crosswalks.

12. ORCID and Datasets
The ODIN roadmap.
ODIN undertook a landscape analysis of PID provision
across the research community and identified gaps in PID
provision and services The roadmap made 10
recommendations for actions that could fill the gaps.
We presented the roadmap in a webinar on September
9th. Recordings are online at:

The DEFF-funded ORCID implementation project has the goal 80 % participation by researchers, through registration or capture into the local Pure CRIS system. To ignite the participating institutions to reach this goal, project funds are subject to registration thresholds of 40 %, 60 % and 80 % of the total number of FTE researchers.
the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), the national funder in Portugal, adopted ORCID. It all started with the process for international evaluation of Portuguese R&D units (similar to REF in the UK), a component of which was a bibliometric analysis. This process involved a nationwide call for all FCT-funded investigators to register with ORCID and use the Scopus-to-ORCID import wizard to populate their ORCID record with publications. In three weeks, the call led to 40,000 registrations among Portuguese researchers, 15,000 of whom were FCT investigators. Over 75,000 publications were linked to these records
In our second year, we have added functionality to enable connections between researchers and their degree-granting and employment institutions, connections with their funding awards, connections with ISNI, improvements to the user interface, single sign-on, and a public API that supports authentication so that the community can integrate ORCID iDs responsibly, regardless of their ability to pay a membership fee.
we are investigating what would be involved to enable logins using other systems, both social and federated
Add member messaging – improved monthly bulletins on new developments, changes and better all round communication of the steps involved in integration
When DOI metadata is available and contains ORCIDs this would be a great opportunity for funders who collect ORCIDs alongside grant information to harvest publications data as it becomes available, which could be a real boost for mandate compliance checks, for example.
