Vicki L. Shemin Reaches 15th
Anniversary as an AV Preeminent®
Rated Attorney
Vicki L. Shemin, J.D., LICSW, ACSW, has been continuously recognized for selection in the Bar Register
of Preeminent Women Lawyers as one of the Top Women Lawyers in the Northeast since 2011
BOSTON, MA, January 9, 2015, Vicki L. Shemin, J.D., LICSW, ACSW, Of Counsel at Boston Law
Collaborative, LLC, has been consistently recognized for showing dedication, leadership and excellence
in family law and alternative dispute resolution.
With more than three decades of indispensable contributions to the legal sector, Ms. Shemin has been
recognized for her professional success as an attorney at Boston Law Collaborative, LLC, a
multidisciplinary law firm notably devoted to an alternative conflict resolution orientation to the practice
of law. With her dual-degree in clinical social work and family law, Ms. Shemin is distinctively well-
suited to offer clients an array of dispute resolution options including mediation, collaborative law,
consultation and coaching, settlement negotiations, parenting coordination, guardian ad litem evaluative
opinions, pre-marital and post-nuptial agreements – and Ms. Shemin even has a subspecialization in
handling cases for those interested in working on “agreements to stay married.” With an ability to handle
the most challenging high-conflict cases and to think outside the box (even where domestic violence has
been part of the family history), Ms. Shemin develops creative solutions uniquely crafted to each client’s
circumstances.
“Vicki Shemin represented me in my divorce and a subsequent dispute regarding alimony. In both cases,
she worked tirelessly to achieve excellent results,” a testimonial from a former client on the firm website
reads. “Always courteous and thoughtful, she is a good listener who comes up with creative solutions to
difficult problems. In negotiations, she is smart, sharp and tenacious. I recommend Vicki without
reservation.”
Throughout the course of her impressive career, Ms. Shemin has established herself as a notable and
trustworthy expert in the field. This year marks her 15-year anniversary with an AV Preeminent®
Peer
Review Rating™ from Martindale-Hubbell®, which represents recognition of the highest standards in
ethical behavior and the quality of her work. In 2012, Ms. Shemin was named among Boston’s Top Rated
Lawyers in three distinct categories - Alternative Dispute Resolution, Family Law and Divorce Law - by
Martindale-Hubbell®, based on peer review ratings. Since 2011, Ms. Shemin has been continuously
recognized for selection in the Bar Register of Preeminent Women Lawyers as one of the Top Women
Lawyers in the Northeast. Remarkably, Ms. Shemin was also the sole recipient of the American
Jurisprudence Book Award in Family Law in 1988, and also was named as a Edward F. Hennessey
Distinguished Scholar (highest honors in third year); Paul J. Liacos Distinguished Scholar (highest honors
in second year); and G. Joseph Tauro Distinguished Scholar (highest honors in first year) at Boston
University School of Law.
A wonderful paradigm of success in her industry, Ms. Shemin continues to excel in the field due to her
professional experience and education, which includes a J.D. cum laude from the Boston University
School of Law (where she was a Note Editor on the Law Review), a Master of Social Work in clinical
social work from the University of Maryland School of Social Work (where she graduated with a perfect
4.0 GPA) and a Bachelor of Arts from the humanistic studies honors program from The Johns Hopkins
University, where she graduated with distinction Phi Beta Kappa.
Her interest in “paying it forward” is evidenced both in the writing and publication of her scholarly
articles and chapter for A Practical Guide to Estate Planning (see “Advanced Medical Directives: Living
Wills, Durable Powers of Attorney and Health Care Proxies”) for Massachusetts Continuing Legal
Education, Inc. (MCLE), as well as in her time devoted to being an adjunct instructor in family law, ethics
and mental health law at Boston University School of Social Work, and as a guest lecturer on mediation,
collaborative law, diversity, domestic violence and power imbalance issues in family law cases, post-
divorce financial planning, and co-parenting topics for the American Bar Association, MCLE,
Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council and Massachusetts Council on Family Mediation, Inc.
(MCFM)
Ms. Shemin is a Florida Supreme Court certified family law mediator and has also been credentialed as a
certified family mediator by MCFM, has earned a 10.0 “excellent” AVVO rating, and has recently been
inducted into the Worldwide Registry for her many accomplishments. An active member within her
industry, Ms. Shemin is a founding member of the national organization, Academy of Professional
Family Mediators; an Executive Board Member of MCFM; and co-chair of the Greater Boston
Collaborative Law Practice Group.
Attorney Shemin is currently working on a book entitled – “Letters To Ex-Spouses:…And I Just Wanted
You To Know” - , combining her interests in psychology and law, which she fervently believes will be a
contribution to those professions, as well as to the fields of medicine and theology. As the research book
involves voluntary participation from divorced individuals, she would welcome any inquiries from
interested participants, or from therapists, clergy or family law attorneys who work with those who have
been divorced.
