The first six pieces of paintings were done based on an approval after a presentation to Celia Tinyan KO, and they are the cored pieces for conveying my research ideas of "Kowloon Walled City Series". After a completion of these six pieces, I then move on to develop three pieces based on Prof. Lui Chun-kwong's ideal. He has cited Leon Golub and Richard Artschwager for my creative references. Indeed, Prof. Lui wants something very precised with a very professional vision. He asks me to simplify all the compositions and chrominances in which "autofigurative sentiments" is a prior concern of understanding and expressing my ideal subject matters.

3. Kowloon Walled City Series
(Version 5) - Spa Leisure at
Kwong Ming Road
• Rather “flat
application”
of pigments
• Rococo-
liked colour
tone
• Distorted
facial
features
4. Kowloon Walled City Series (Ver. 6)
- Lifeguard's experience at Dentist
Street
• Yan Zhenqing (顏真卿)’s style of Regular
Scripts from Tang Dynasty – ink-rubbing
calligraphic draft (墨塌拓本) for stele-script
imitation practice (碑學)
5. Kowloon Walled City Series (Ver. 6) - Lifeguard's
experience at Dentist Street
• Assuming that Alfred Hui operated a
dental clinic at Dentist Street in a
cheap rental condition for helping the
impoverished residents there heal
their dental illness
6. Prof. LUI Chun-kwong’s advices
• “One kind of
brushstrokes for
rendering one kind of
iconographies”
• Attaining a consistency
between the tone of the
background and the
tone of the subject
matters
• Flat application of
pigment
7. Prof. LUI Chun-kwong’s advices
• Examples: Leon Golub’s
“Mercenaries V” & Richard
Artschwager’s “Untitled
Interior”
8. • For the rest of my three paintings, I will follow Prof. Lui Chun-kwong’s
advices to render two criminal paintings and one life-figure painting
by employing a lifeguard colleague as my model for doing so.
– Life-figure painting: Do two pieces of nude drawings first {* A1 drawing
paper, only included in documentation}. Then, move on to paint a long
pose in which the lifeguard model wears a pair of red shorts {* 48” x 36”
canvas, as an exhibit at CUHK Art Museum}.
• (* Just like Prof. HO Siu-kee’s project testing my ability in accomplishing Maurice
Merleau-Ponty’s “autofigurative sentiments” ideal, but adopting Prof. LUI Chun-
kwong’s chrominance and compositional methodology)
9. Prof. LUI Chun-kwong’s advices (completed one piece
of criminal painting only)
• Example: Leon Golub’s
“Mercenaries V”
• Kowloon Walled City
Series (Ver. 7) - Press-up
of Lifeguards for Cervalat
10. Prof. LUI Chun-kwong’s advices (completed one piece of criminal
painting only)
• Kowloon Walled City Series (Ver. 7) - Press-up of Lifeguards for Cervalat
– A reflection of Stephen Chow’s “nonsense culture”
11. Prof. LUI Chun-kwong’s advices (completed one
piece of criminal painting only)
• Another piece of criminal painting: A Homecoming Dad

Kwong Ming Road
