2. Introduction
Famous designer Le Corbusier introduced two most important term
for designing
Form Follows Function - it means that the shape of a building or object
should be primarily based upon its intended function or purpose.
Machine For Living – machine for living means to create a house where a
people does not have to adjust themselves according to the house but a
space where house will adjust according to their wish.
During the tenure of 1st year of diploma program I have learnt many
concepts which are important to create any plan which include
orientation, daylight, ventilation, building byelaws, anthropometrics,
ergonomics, space planning etc.
5. As per the given case study I have to design a closet for a client of age of 19 years.
Requirements of my client are:-
Number of shoes- 6 pairs
The other materials with shoes are socks, shoe polish, brushes
Mirror for dressing
Place for keeping cosmetics and perfumes
Place for keeping daily use clothes like salwar-suits, jeans, t-shirts in hanging position
(approximate 50 clothes)
Place for keeping woolen clothes (8 cardigans)
Place for keeping party wear or special occasion clothes
Place for keeping lingerie

for hanging 6 pair of socks = 6 x 10”
= 60 sq.inches
9. Space available for space planning:-
• Linear space available-
L x B = 6’ x 2’ = 12 sq.ft.
• Inner space (volume) available-
L x B x H = 6’ x 2’ x 6’ = 72 cu.ft.
11. To create any design I need to focus on the Principles and Elements of
design. For the space planning over hear I mainly focused on balance
in a design with the basic elements shape which is very rightly said
“Form Follows Function”.
In the subsequent slides you will come across the space planning
created by me for my client.
12. For any adult user for a closet the standard size required is 5 linear
feet. Keeping into the mind the requirements of my client and the
space provided I created an elevation for my design.
In my design I have utilized 6 linear feet on floor.

25. Two concepts of placement of doors
• Traditional concept
• Contemporary concept
Traditional concept:-
In traditional concept inset concept of door were used. In this concept the door were placed
inside the main frame and hinges were visible. It has been shown in below image.
Doors were placed
inside the main
frame
26. Contemporary concept:-
In contemporary concept full overlay and half overlay concept of door were used. hinges are not visible from
outside. In half overlay half space of the board was used to place that door and the other half space another
door was placed.
Hinges are not visible
In full over lay.
These type of hinges are used.
Full overlay concept in both corner doors. And half overlay concept in both middle doors
27. As An Interior Designer This Project On Space Planning Has Made Me Aware That A
Space Of 6’ X 2’x 6’ (L X B X H) Has Been Made More Functional By Creating More
Space From The Space Provided To Us.
I Have Created 57.52 Cu.Ft. In This Space.
Estimated No. Of Boards Required In The Making Of Closet :
Area Of Closet / Area Of One Board = No. Of Boards Required
177.35 / 32 = 5.54 Boards (i.e. 6 Boards)
One Extra Board
28. Now in subsequent slides , I am presenting my
work on design development.

30. Case Study
I am supposed to design a Living
Room for a hypothetical client
based on Baroque style.
The area of the plot given is 54’ x
63’ and the covered area of the
plot is 38’ x 42’ and the space
assigned to me is 12’ x 12’.
31. Space Provided
The Plan Which I Devised Is shown Below In Which The Place Marked is assigned
To Me For get it designed according to the style.
For any space to be designed we need to study the needs and requirements of a
client and the space provided to us. All these points are explained in the
subsequent slides.

38. As Per The Case Study And The Space Provided To Me I Am
Suppose To Design A Living Room.
The Personality Of The Space, Activities In That Space And The
Collage Of Living Room(as To How The Living Room Is And
Activities) Are Shown In The Subsequent Slides.
39. Personality of my Space
As all human beings have their individual personality like that
every space also has its own personality. The space I am suppose
to design is Living Room.
Living room has a fresh personality, person feels fresh sitting
their and at the same time person calms his mind when he is
tiered. It is a lively space as whole family spends time together so
this place should be very cheerful, energetic and enthusiastic.
40. Living Room is a place where human being relaxes himself and spends
quality time with his family. He behaves what he is in real and does not
pretends.
Living room should be outreaching and cheerful.
Major activities performed in Living room are:-
Entertainment
Watching television
Listening music
Reading
Writing
Studying
Relaxing
Resting
Children's play area
Playing music
Eating
Family Discussion
Activities of my space
43. The Introduction to the What is Style.?? and the
Baroque Style and The Things Which were used In
That Time Period Are Being Shown In The Form Of
Video In subsequent Slides:
44. Style is a phenomenon that gives birth to an art or
architectural motif that distinguishes one era from
another
A style is characterized by the features that make
building or a structure notable and historically
identifiable. A style includes elements like form, method
used for construction, building materials, motifs of the
style etc.
What is Style..??
45. Baroque Style
The Baroque is a period of artistic style that started
around 1600 in Rome, Italy, and spread throughout the
majority of Europe during the 17th and 18th centuries. In
informal usage, the word "baroque" describes something
that is elaborate and highly detailed.
48. Floors
Baroque houses had stone flag floors, marble
was used in two or more colors so that they
produced illusionistic pattern. The surface
appeared to vary in depth.
49.
50. The floor patters had parquet or even marquetry patterns.
Woven carpets from eastern Mediterranean was considered very expensive and were used in
houses.
Carpets were luxury on wooden floor.
59. As I am suppose to design a living room based on
baroque style and the major task is to reincarnate it in
todays time.
The Designing Process is shown in the subsequent slides:-
60. Every space has its personality according to which the
mood is selected for designing. For my space of
designing I have chosen the FRESH Mood as the
personality of my space is fresh, relaxing and soothing.
61. Concept Board
Concepts are of two types:-
1. Conjunctive or Empirial
2. Disjunctive or Abstract
Disjunctive Concept or Abstract:-
Concept That Does Not Exist In The Physical
World But Rather Subsists In The Mind, Like A
Mood-happy, Tranquil ,Or An Atmosphere-
Peaceful, Efficient Etc.
This Type Of Concept Is More Subtle And
Underline. It May Not Become Obvious To The
Audience.
63. According To The Mood Board Fresh And The Personality
Of The Space I Have Selected a color scheme i.e.
monochromatic and the colors used in this color scheme
are:-
64. Color Board
The aspects, qualities of color refer to
combinations that evoke certain
emotional responses. Color means
different things to different peoples in
different cultures. For eg white is the
purest color and color of the bride for
Christians and at the same time for
Hindus it is said to be the color for
widows.
Color that is considered in Fresh is
green it is the color of prosperity and
suggest health. It is said to be the
color of meditation and soothing.
65. Monochromatic color scheme
I have chosen the monochromatic color
scheme for my living room. In this color
scheme tints, tones and shades of
green color are used.
By default neutral colors i.e. Black,
white, grey and brown are used with
every color scheme.
66. Considering the style, mood and concept chosen
I have selected some options for my living room
design which are shown in following slides:-
