Can It Really BeCan It Really BeCan It Really BeCan It Really Be This Good? This Good? This Good? This Good?
"And we know that in all things God works for
the good of those who love him, who have been
called according to his purpose." - Saint Paul,
his letter to the church at Rome, chapter eight,
verse twenty eight.
"It's too good to be true", we sometimes think.
And most of the time we are right! We think we
found something so awesome, and then we see
the hidden flaws in a "perfect" product, or the
character defects in who we thought was an
ideal person. After a while, we no longer
believe it when something seems so "right".
The wisdom, "Too good to be true" is an
accurate assessment.... most of the time.
But not all the time.
What could be so good, so true, so right, so
ideal and so awesome, and still not disappoint
us? You know, don't you? It's our Lord. He is
the definition of perfect. And when we are down
on ourselves, seeing only our defects, our flaws,
our shortcomings, His grace whispers in our
ear...
"I see you as perfect, because of your faith in
my gift at the cross."
"Therefore, there is no condemnation for those
who are in Christ Jesus", Romans 8:1. "...and
are justified freely by his grace through the
redemption that came by Christ Jesus."
Romans 3:24.
Is that too good to be true? It is just that good!
It is the truth. That is the power of grace. That
is the cleaning power of the cross. That is the
effect of faith in Christ as Lord and Savior.
That is God's love.
Much of our lives are like that too, so good, it
hardly seems possible. Look at our blessings.
Most of us are tripping over them in our
basements and garages! We have those
blessings pressing wrinkles in closets jammed
with clothing. Our drawers may be messy, but
that is because we cannot organize all the
blessings. Not only so with material things like
a place to live, with modern appliances, electric
lights, speedy communications, running water
and such, but also with all of our loved ones!
You cannot count all of your loved ones on your
fingers and toes! Luther had this so well
worded in our Catechism, "He has given me my
body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members,
my reason and all my senses, and still takes
care of them. He also gives me clothing and
shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife
and children, land, animals, and all I have. He
richly and daily provides me with all that I need
to support this body and life."
Now add to that a place called Our Saviour
Lutheran Church. A family of believers. A
weekly gathering place. A spiritual home.
Too good to be true? Not at all.
All these and more are blessings from God!
Let's raise the roof with shouts of praise!

LET’S HEAR IT FOR A HEARING LOOP
Folks who use a hearing aid often cannot hear the sounds that come through a public
address [PA] system. For some of our members with hearing aids, that means they
cannot hear or understand the pastor when leading worship because their voices are
amplified. We have received seed money to purchase a ‘hearing loop’, which would be a
solution to that problem, and further gifts are being invited. An explanation of what a
hearing loop is and how it works was in the May issue of The Voice. A matching gift is
available for those who can donate towards this project, which has a cost of
approximately $5,900.
OUR 2014 GRADUATING CLASS
MICHAELA McLEOD is the daughter of Bruce and Penny McLeod. After graduating
from Preble High School, she will attend the University of
Northern Michigan to major in Biology. It is her plan to then go
to medical school and become a pediatric sports medicine physician. Her favorite
Bible verse is Psalm 73:26: “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength
of my heart and my portion forever.” Michaela’s favorite memories growing up at
Our Saviour are of being in the Sunday school Christmas programs when she was in
a little kid.
LOGAN POMASL is the son of Larry and Julie Pomasl. He will graduate from Preble
High School in June, after which he plans to attend UW-LaCrosse to study computer
science in a dual degree program resulting in a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science
and a Master’s degree in Software Engineering. His message of faith comes from
Deuteronomy 3:16: “Don’t mistake God’s patience for his absence. His timing is
perfect, and his presence is constant. He is always with you.” In his years at Our
Saviour, Logan really enjoyed participating in the Live Nativity each Christmas.
HUNTER PONKRATZ is the son of Brad and Traci Ponkratz. Upon graduating
from Preble High School, he will attend UW-Platteville to study Mechanical
Engineering. His favorite Bible verse is James 1:2-4: “Consider it pure joy, my
brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the
testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work
so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” His favorite
memories are the various field trips with his confirmation class.
ALYSSA PRITCHARD is the daughter of Paul and Michelle Pritchard. She will graduate from Preble H.S. in
June and then will attend UW-Stevens Point as a biology major. When in need of comfort, Psalm 23 is
always with her. Her favorite memories are of performing in the Christmas plays.
LYDIA RUSCH, who graduated from N.E.W. Lutheran High School on Saturday, May 24,
is the daughter of Steve and Julie Rusch. She will attend Concordia University-
Wisconsin to pursue a degree in Education. Her faith message is from Hebrews 11:1:
“Now faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see.” She
fondly remembers all the years spent attending Sunday school classes, being part of
the Youth Group and, especially, attending the National Youth Gathering events in San
Antonio, Texas (2013) and New Orleans, Louisiana (2010).
MITCHEL WANIGER will graduate from Preble High School and then attend UW-Stout
to study Manufacturing Engineering Technology. Some fun is planned, too with trips
to Cedar Point Amusement Park and Great America as well as attending football and
baseball games…and don’t forget the disc golf tournaments! His favorite Bible verse,
which is from his confirmation, is John 10:27-28 – “My sheep listen to my voice; I
know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish;
no one will snatch them out of my hand.” Mitch enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible
School and Fish Fries and also skiing and paint-balling with the Youth Group. Like
Lydia, he attending the National Youth Gathering in 2010 and 2013.

June 2014 issue of The Voice

  • 1. 1 Our Saviour Lutheran Church, 120 S. Henry Street, Green Bay, Wisconsin, 54302 (920) 468-4065 June 2014 Can It Really BeCan It Really BeCan It Really BeCan It Really Be This Good? This Good? This Good? This Good? "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose." - Saint Paul, his letter to the church at Rome, chapter eight, verse twenty eight. "It's too good to be true", we sometimes think. And most of the time we are right! We think we found something so awesome, and then we see the hidden flaws in a "perfect" product, or the character defects in who we thought was an ideal person. After a while, we no longer believe it when something seems so "right". The wisdom, "Too good to be true" is an accurate assessment.... most of the time. But not all the time. What could be so good, so true, so right, so ideal and so awesome, and still not disappoint us? You know, don't you? It's our Lord. He is the definition of perfect. And when we are down on ourselves, seeing only our defects, our flaws, our shortcomings, His grace whispers in our ear... "I see you as perfect, because of your faith in my gift at the cross." "Therefore, there is no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus", Romans 8:1. "...and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus." Romans 3:24. Is that too good to be true? It is just that good! It is the truth. That is the power of grace. That is the cleaning power of the cross. That is the effect of faith in Christ as Lord and Savior. That is God's love. Much of our lives are like that too, so good, it hardly seems possible. Look at our blessings. Most of us are tripping over them in our basements and garages! We have those blessings pressing wrinkles in closets jammed with clothing. Our drawers may be messy, but that is because we cannot organize all the blessings. Not only so with material things like a place to live, with modern appliances, electric lights, speedy communications, running water and such, but also with all of our loved ones! You cannot count all of your loved ones on your fingers and toes! Luther had this so well worded in our Catechism, "He has given me my body and soul, eyes, ears, and all my members, my reason and all my senses, and still takes care of them. He also gives me clothing and shoes, food and drink, house and home, wife and children, land, animals, and all I have. He richly and daily provides me with all that I need to support this body and life." Now add to that a place called Our Saviour Lutheran Church. A family of believers. A weekly gathering place. A spiritual home. Too good to be true? Not at all. All these and more are blessings from God! Let's raise the roof with shouts of praise! By David H. Hatch Our Saviour’s Voice

For some of our members with hearing aids, that means they cannot hear or understand the pastor when leading worship because their voices are amplified. We have received seed money to purchase a ‘hearing loop’, which would be a solution to that problem, and further gifts are being invited. An explanation of what a hearing loop is and how it works was in the May issue of The Voice. A matching gift is available for those who can donate towards this project, which has a cost of approximately $5,900.
  • 4. OUR 2014 GRADUATING CLASS MICHAELA McLEOD is the daughter of Bruce and Penny McLeod. After graduating from Preble High School, she will attend the University of Northern Michigan to major in Biology. It is her plan to then go to medical school and become a pediatric sports medicine physician. Her favorite Bible verse is Psalm 73:26: “My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” Michaela’s favorite memories growing up at Our Saviour are of being in the Sunday school Christmas programs when she was in a little kid. LOGAN POMASL is the son of Larry and Julie Pomasl. He will graduate from Preble High School in June, after which he plans to attend UW-LaCrosse to study computer science in a dual degree program resulting in a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and a Master’s degree in Software Engineering. His message of faith comes from Deuteronomy 3:16: “Don’t mistake God’s patience for his absence. His timing is perfect, and his presence is constant. He is always with you.” In his years at Our Saviour, Logan really enjoyed participating in the Live Nativity each Christmas. HUNTER PONKRATZ is the son of Brad and Traci Ponkratz. Upon graduating from Preble High School, he will attend UW-Platteville to study Mechanical Engineering. His favorite Bible verse is James 1:2-4: “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” His favorite memories are the various field trips with his confirmation class. ALYSSA PRITCHARD is the daughter of Paul and Michelle Pritchard. She will graduate from Preble H.S. in June and then will attend UW-Stevens Point as a biology major. When in need of comfort, Psalm 23 is always with her. Her favorite memories are of performing in the Christmas plays. LYDIA RUSCH, who graduated from N.E.W. Lutheran High School on Saturday, May 24, is the daughter of Steve and Julie Rusch. She will attend Concordia University- Wisconsin to pursue a degree in Education. Her faith message is from Hebrews 11:1: “Now faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what you do not see.” She fondly remembers all the years spent attending Sunday school classes, being part of the Youth Group and, especially, attending the National Youth Gathering events in San Antonio, Texas (2013) and New Orleans, Louisiana (2010). MITCHEL WANIGER will graduate from Preble High School and then attend UW-Stout to study Manufacturing Engineering Technology. Some fun is planned, too with trips to Cedar Point Amusement Park and Great America as well as attending football and baseball games…and don’t forget the disc golf tournaments! His favorite Bible verse, which is from his confirmation, is John 10:27-28 – “My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” Mitch enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School and Fish Fries and also skiing and paint-balling with the Youth Group. Like Lydia, he attending the National Youth Gathering in 2010 and 2013.

We will cook and organize all the activities (participate in whatever you like)...and of course, a trip to the fireworks will be included. This is a great way to explore camp together and introduce your children to it.
