GLOATING AT THE ENEMY
“Do not rejoice when your enemy falls. ” (Proverbs 24:17)
O badiah is the shortest book in the Old Testament. Yet hidden away in its brief
record is a vital question that affects us all: How should we respond when we see
an enemy experience misfortune?
The prophet Obadiah ministered during the time that the city of Jerusalem was under
fierce attack by the armies of Babylon. The neighbors of Jerusalem, the Edomites, were
actually cheering on the enemy armies to destroy and kill (Ps. 137:7-9). Ironically, these
hurtful jeers were spoken by blood relatives of the Jews. They were descendants of Jacob,
and the Edomites were descendants of Esau.
Obadiah condemned the Edomites for gloating: “You should not have gazed on the day
of your brother in the day of his captivity; nor should you have rejoiced over the children of
Judah in the day of their destruction” (Obad. 1:12).
If someone has repeatedly been hurtful to us, it is easy to give in to vindictive pleasure
when they experience misfortune. But Scripture admonishes us, “Do not rejoice when your

2. enemy falls, and do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles” (Prov. 24:17). Instead, we
are to maintain an attitude of compassion and forgiveness, and trust God to bring justice in
His time.
For Further Thought How to handle people-
problems (Romans 12): Be patient (v.12), bless
persecutors (v.14), be humble (v.16), don’t take
revenge (v.19), defeat evil with good (v.21).
Love for God can be measured by the love we
show for our worst enemy.
To begin our prayer time together, we ask you to repeat this prayer with us each day...
“Father, in Jesus’ Name, I pray Your divine hedge of protection, Your will
and plan for Pastor Avinash, his father, his mother, his brother, his
entire LGG staff, their families, and my life be established … and I pray
that the enemy’s plans and purposes be destroyed.”

healing power of Jesus Christ in their lives. Many people are suffering –
spiritually, emotionally, and physically – let us stand before our Mighty God
today on their behalf!

Pastor Avinash and Rajiv will be able to accomplish all that you have
called them to do.”

Summer Health Tips for Kids: How to
Stay Safe in the Summer

E xercising and playing sports in the summer can be difficult because of the heat,
so always be sure to warm-up and cool down before and after exercising and
keep hydrated with water. Do not allow kids to exercise outside in the heat for more than
thirty minutes. If kids are going for a walk be sure they know to stay on the sidewalk,
facing traffic and that they look both ways when they cross the street. When a child goes
camping be sure they have a whistle they can wear around their neck. When bicycling
kids should wear a helmet, move with traffic, obey traffic rules and not listen to music
while riding. Be sure, when they play sports they stretch, use proper equipment and
protective gear (like mouth guards, wrist and knee pads, elbow guards and cups). And
kid's should not play, or stop playing if they are hurt or feel sick.
Poison Ivy: in order to prevent a child from getting poison ivy there a few steps you
can take. The first is to identify the plant and, if possible, safely remove it from any
exposed area. Kids should wear long sleeves and pants if an area might have a plant,
and avoid touching plants if they do not know what they are. Immediately wash any skin,
pets or clothing that come into contact with the plant, to lessen the severity of any
potential rash. If a child does have a rash from poison ivy, use calamine lotion, oatmeal
baths or hydro-cortisone cream to lessen the itching and check with a doctor for any other
treatments.
Play it safe on the playground - make sure to always watch children on the playground
to avoid them getting hurt, running away or talking to strangers, and have a first aid kit
handy. Keep toddlers separate from older kids, who may play rougher. Take kids to well-
maintained playgrounds, free of rusty parts, broken equipment, splintering wood or
exposed sharp pieces and soft surfaces instead of concrete. Do not let children run in
front of or in back of any swings that are in use. Be careful of metal slides, as they will get
hot, and potentially burn a child, in the heat. When on climbing toys, like a jungle gym,
children should be cautious of other kids and not try to reach a bar that is too high. Kids
should immediately leave the bottom of a slide after reaching the end, and the kids going
down should check that it is clear for them to go down.
