Apps in these connected objects will open new revenue sources through micropayments and subscriptions.
New types of commerce through new devices. ,[object Object]
Adding game mechanics to objects will increase levels of engagement with them.
Sensors will be able to track usage, count our steps and social networks will allow us to rate ourselves against our peers in real-time detail. ,[object Object]

Comes up with recipes from whatever is in the fridge.
Self-cleaning.
Energy efficient double touch screen.
Removal of serendipity?
Potentially significant impact upon how we shop at supermarkets and consume food. ,[object Object]
Could potentially re-design the dashboard through smartphone use.
Pandora is an early example.
Ford hope to jump-start customer app development with the creation of its Mobile Application Developer Network.

Internet of Things Debate

  • 2. © Crayon 2010 The Internet of Things is a concept where everyday objects are connected to the internet, and equipped with small identifying sensors.  Real-time product usage data will allow brands and objects themselves to give informed purchasing decisions and increased personalisation. Waste and running out of stock would be greatly reduced as product usage would be tracked. Mislaid items and physical theft would be affected by the fact that the location of an item would be known at all times.

  • 22. © Crayon 2010 Human coding and software are more important than sensors. Case study title X X X X Images here Ultimately making use of the Internet of Things will rely on what is done with the data, rather than merely collecting it. Images here It will be our job to understand what is valuable and what is a gimmick.
  • 23. © Crayon 2010 Privacy will become even more of a major issue. Case study title X X X X Images here With increased personalisation comes increased monitoring. Many people will not choose objects which monitor their everyday behaviour. Images here

  • 26. What possibilities does IoT offer? - What can we offer?

  • 31. Electricity Grid Body Alarm Clock Alarms could adjust according to data from public transport information, traffic, weather and calendars. Houses could adjust the usage of central heating so that you keep warm while optimising efficiency. Cells might detect early warning signs of genetic diseases so they can be caught early. Art Vacuum Cleaner Wardrobe Famous pieces could be able to transmit a friend’s review to a connected device when in proximity. Wardrobes could be able to give you clothing suggestions according to incoming calendar and weather data. Vacuums could be able to tell you the power percentage of its suction and re-order a bag when they are nearly full.

  • 37. Privacy will be even more of an issue than it already is, with societal separations being drawn along the lines of those who choose to opt-in to these brand tracked objects and those who opt-out. The challenge for marketers will be to create mechanisms which encourage trust and participation.
  • 38. The Internet of Things will potentially make us more efficient as they automate certain processes through connected data. Those who opt-in to these tracked objects will have to decide at which point this automated efficiently is detracting from human thought. Will this efficiency allow us to be able to consider problems more heuristically, where algorithmic behaviours may have previously absorbed time? Or will these objects automate themselves to teach users particular skills, perhaps even retracting this automation as users acquire these skills? We will have to use our human experiences to decide how these objects will develop.Case study title X X X X Images here With increased personalisation comes increased monitoring. Will you mind having your usage of every single object monitored? Images here

The polar bear can say it’s getting warmer. The rainforest can tell you it’s being logged. The ground can tell you where oil is.The bridge can ask to be maintained.

  8. Body - It is an establishedfact that several serious common illnesses like breast cancer, cardio-vasculardeceases and Alzheimer's disease have genetic components. It is also knownthat successful treatment depends on early detection. Biodegradable materials will offer the possibility to place temporary sensorsand lab-on-a-chip equipment on the patient, or in the patient. Temperatureand humidity can be measured inside a cast to prevent skin problems.
